About The Position

Omnicare, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of CVS Health Corporation. We provide a broad array of pharmacy-related services to long term care facilities and to other customers in the healthcare environment. This role is for a fast-paced and multifaceted environment where you can show your passion for helping others. The IV Pharmacist will directly supervise IV and equipment management technicians, ensure compliance with all pharmacy laws and regulations, and maintain all required IV documentation and clinical monitoring. This position involves assessing new and existing patients for therapy appropriateness, performing dose calculations, programming infusion pumps, and consistent clinical monitoring of all infusion patients. The role requires a thorough understanding of Omnicare's policies and procedures, as well as excellent care coordination with various healthcare entities. Additionally, the IV Pharmacist will answer drug-related questions, communicate with consultant pharmacists, and orient/assess competency for pharmacists and technicians rotating into the IV pharmacy. Maintaining current knowledge of infusion drugs, therapies, aseptic technique, and infusion devices is crucial. The position also includes overseeing cleanroom monitoring and pump maintenance, attending continuing education, and performing on-call duties as required. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed pharmacist in the state of Arizona, must be active & in good standing
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy

Nice To Haves

  • Experience Immunization certification or willingness to become immunization certified

Responsibilities

  • Supervise IV and equipment management technician.
  • Ensure compliance with all pharmacy laws and regulations, and sterile compounding guidelines.
  • Maintain all required IV documentation and clinical monitoring.
  • Fully assess new patients and new orders on existing patients for appropriateness of therapy, high risk medications, allergies, adverse indications or interactions, and other potentially adverse outcomes.
  • Perform accurate dose calculations based on medication, patient condition, volume and administration rates.
  • Program infusion pumps.
  • Consistent and ongoing clinical monitoring of all infusion patients.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Omnicare Long Term Care Pharmacy/Home Infusion Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual and internal pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of other facility infusion therapy manuals if not using the Omnicare Customer Infusion Procedure manual.
  • IV order processing only when technical support unavailable.
  • Excellent care coordination with home health agencies, nursing facilities, physicians, and the IV nurse consultant.
  • Answer drug-related questions as related to IV therapy and management in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with facility consultant pharmacists and clinical staff pharmacists regarding IV patient management.
  • Orient and provide competency assessment for all pharmacists who rotate from oral pharmacy to IV pharmacy and orient and assess competency on all IV technicians and infusion pump technicians, when appropriate; this includes making certain that all pharmacists and technicians rotating into the IV room have completed the approved Omnicare Infusion Training Program.
  • Excellent understanding of the GCPG, formulary initiatives, and Omnicare clinical programs.
  • Review consultant customer action request reports and other reports for facilities at which IV therapy is provided.
  • Maintain a current knowledge if infusion drugs and therapies.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of aseptic technique.
  • Maintain knowledge of currently available infusion devices, products, and supplies.
  • Oversee cleanroom monitoring and pump maintenance.
  • Attend continuing education seminars and annual meetings as provided to maintain clinical pharmacy skills.
  • On-call duties as required.
  • Follow all applicable government regulations including HIPAA.
