About The Position

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking an ITS & Signals Supervisor to lead a skilled team responsible for maintaining and operating critical transportation technology systems across the Olympic Region. In this role, you will guide the work that keeps travelers informed, traffic moving safely, and infrastructure functioning reliably—from traffic signals and highway illumination to advanced Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Based out of Lacey, WA, this position provides leadership across multiple locations and plays a key role in shaping system performance, workforce development, and operational priorities. You’ll collaborate with engineers, contractors, and regional partners while fostering a culture rooted in safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement.   • Licensing: Possession of a valid unrestricted Class B CDL without airbrake restrictions to legally operate vehicles in Washington State OR the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support ITS crews in the maintenance, repair, and installation of communication, electronic, and electrical systems, including traffic signals, fiber networks, and highway illumination.
  • Plan, assign, and prioritize work; coordinate schedules; and ensure timely and high-quality completion of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop employees through performance management, training, and career development support.
  • Respond to emergencies by dispatching crews, coordinating repairs, and making real-time operational decisions, including after-hours callouts.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs and evaluate system performance to identify improvements or upgrades.
  • Manage tools, equipment, inventory, and purchasing decisions to support efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project teams to review plans, provide field insights, and support successful project delivery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal partners, external agencies, contractors, and the public to address transportation system needs.
