About The Position

The Italian Summer Camp Credit Teacher at Concordia Language Villages plans and teaches language classes and provides immersive cultural learning experiences. Working alongside Village leadership, the teacher assesses student progress and supports participants in developing Italian language skills while earning high school credit.

The role also contributes to daily Village life by leading activities and helping create a welcoming, supportive community where students can build confidence, explore new perspectives, and connect across cultures. This is a seasonal, temporary, full-time residential position for Summer 2027 in Bemidji, Minnesota. The schedule may include up to seven days per week, with residential work of 14–16 hours per day plus overnight supervision responsibilities. The minimum salary is $520 per week.

The teacher lives in a cabin with children as part of a counseling team and helps supervise students during activities and meals. Seasonal employment may include housing, meals, paid training and orientation, tuition discounts for eligible children, professional development and intercultural learning opportunities, and J-1 visa sponsorship for eligible international applicants, depending on the position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent.
• Experience teaching the target language and culture.
• Hands-on experience working with adolescents aged 14–18.
• Conversational and written proficiency in the target language.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to model those skills for younger children.
• Maturity and good judgment.
• Enjoy interacting with and managing children.
• Adaptability and flexibility in changing situations.
• Ability to meet the essential functions of the role, including emotional resiliency and cognitive abilities in a busy, noisy communal environment; maintaining appropriate professional relationships and boundaries; exercising good judgment; and interacting effectively across social and cultural diversity.
• At least 16 years of age to be considered for a staff position; at least 18 if not a United States citizen.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Concordia Language Villages or summer camp experience.
• Teaching licensure.
• Experience as a teacher in the target language.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate grade records and complete mid-session progress reports and final evaluations.
• Communicate with the Credit Facilitator about the progress of credit participants in classes and elective courses.
• Live in a cabin with children as part of a counseling team and provide supervision.
• Lead games, Cabin Council, and other activities to build a cabin community.
• Supervise and interact with students during meals.
• Assist with other aspects of Village life, including cultural presentations and activity periods.
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the dean and leadership staff.
• Follow applicable personnel policies and responsibilities for the assigned area.
• Attend orientation before the first session as designated by the staff agreement.
• Assist with setting up the Village, preparing for the next session, and maintaining the Village throughout the session.
• Speak the target language with villagers and staff members as much as possible.
• Model appropriate behavior and be sensitive to villagers’ health and welfare.
• Remain one day after the final session for cleanup, inventory, and program evaluation.
