About The Position

This position supports the entire college community and its partners, requiring advanced knowledge to perform effectively. It also serves as a technical reference for the Information Technology management team. The role involves coordinating, configuring, implementing, and maintaining virtual and physical Windows and Linux servers, recommending standards for software and hardware implementation, and managing virtual machines and hypervisor settings. The administrator will analyze server performance, recommend capacity and configuration standards, and collaborate on system backups, data storage, disaster recovery strategies, and cybersecurity monitoring. Responsibilities include monitoring backups, verifying storage configurations, analyzing and modifying security policies, assisting with Office 365 eDiscovery, and resolving recurring technical issues. The role also involves providing assistance and training on server applications to lower-level technicians and working with management on security and policy creation. Additionally, the position supports the current Amazon WebServices (AWS) server/file backup system for retention and disaster recovery, manages storage, configures AWS logins, and analyzes resource usage. The administrator will implement, upgrade, configure, and maintain Microsoft 365 and other infrastructure applications, including Office 365, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and MS Exchange. This includes implementing configuration changes, analyzing application licensing, analyzing on-premise Exchange system configuration and email flow, and analyzing anti-spam settings. The role also involves configuring application deployment via Intune and AD policies, supporting other departments with server and application needs, configuring conditional access policies, modifying server OS settings, troubleshooting multi-user issues, and routinely verifying and fine-tuning system status and performance.

Requirements

  • Documented experience focusing on Windows, Active Directory, and Linux environments, including application support.
  • Operational and moderate administrative expertise in Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory, Exchange, and VEEAM/AWS backup solutions.
  • Operational and moderate administrative expertise in endpoint device management configuration and compliance via Intune.
  • Operational and moderate administrative expertise in SCCM and endpoint image creation and management.
  • Operational and moderate administrative expertise in Active Directory infrastructure components such as domain controller setup, AD sites and services, GPO, DNS, DHCP, and PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, network infrastructure, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Knowledge of Office 365 identity management principles, MFA, Conditional Access, and Entra ID Connect.
  • Operational experience with eDiscovery in Office 365 and compliance-driven data retrieval.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize server performance and proactively.
  • Ability to install, administer, and configure applications.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and provide technical training.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Knowledge of IT security frameworks (NIST, CIS, or ISO 27001).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, configure, implement, and maintain virtual and physical Windows and Linux servers.
  • Recommend standards for implementing software and hardware for infrastructure servers.
  • Install, modify, and delete virtual machines.
  • Modify Hypervisor settings.
  • Analyze server performance data and recommend capacity and configuration standards.
  • Maintain system backups, develop data storage and disaster recovery strategies, and monitor cybersecurity of systems.
  • Monitor and implement backups, verify storage configuration and use, and analyze and modify the configuration of security policies across infrastructure systems.
  • Assist in conducting searches and recovering email in Office365 eDiscovery when needed.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other senior technical staff to permanently resolve recurring or common issues across applications; escalate to management when appropriate.
  • Provide assistance and training on Exchange365 and other server applications to lower-level technicians.
  • Work with other system administrators and the supervisor on the creation and configuration of security and other policies for all infrastructure applications.
  • Submit email searches and verify emails are deleted.
  • Analyze M365 operation for errors.
  • Demonstrate M365 operations to other technicians.
  • Create and modify M365 security policies.
  • Support the current Amazon WebServices (AWS) server/file backup system for retention and disaster recovery.
  • Manage storage, configure logins for AWS, and analyze resource usage in AWS.
  • Implement, upgrade, configure, and maintain Microsoft 365 and other infrastructure applications and systems: Microsoft (MS) Office365, Teams, SharePoint, One Drive, MS Exchange, other applications.
  • Implement configuration changes for Microsoft365 apps.
  • Analyze application licensing.
  • Analyze on-premise Exchange system configuration and email flow.
  • Analyze anti-spam settings on M365 and Exchange on-premise.
  • Configure application deployment to servers and workstations via Intune and AD policies.
  • Provide server and application support for Authentication, phone, and environmental controls to other departments.
  • Configure conditional access policies.
  • Modify server OS settings via Intune or AD Policies.
  • Troubleshoot issues that affect multiple users.
  • Routinely verify system status and performance, effectively fine-tuning systems as needed.
  • Check Server OS performance metrics to determine performance issues.
