About The Position

This position is for an IT System Administrator 2 within the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD), Division of Administrative Services, located in Juneau, Alaska. The role focuses on acting as a systems architect for the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefits and (UI) Tax programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing, configuring, modifying, and maintaining multiple systems across the DOL Enterprise, coding bug fixes and enhancements using Mainframe tools such as Broadcom Gen, DB2, COBOL, CICS, SQL Server, tso, xTrace, GuardIEn, and Team Foundation Server. Proficiency in all aspects of design and systems analysis is expected. The IT staff, including this position, plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of the various divisions to assist job seekers, workers, and employers in Alaska.

Requirements

• Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions.
• Knowledge of the principles and methods to identify, analyze, specify, design, and manage functional and infrastructure requirements; includes translating functional requirements into technical requirements used for logical design or presenting alternative technologies or approaches.
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for designing, developing, and testing software in a given environment.
• Knowledge of specifications, uses, and types of computer or computer-related equipment.
• Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software.
• Knowledge of computer network, desktop, and mainframe operating systems and their applications.
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components.
• Knowledge of principles, methods, and tools for analyzing and developing systems testing and evaluation procedures and technical characteristics of IT systems, including identifying critical operational issues.
• Training in computer science, information technology, system administration, or a similar field and professional experience in database, network, or system administration.

Responsibilities

• Act as a systems architect for the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD) mission critical Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefits and (UI) Tax programs.
• Analyze, configure, modify, and maintain multiple systems across the DOL Enterprise.
• Code bug fixes and enhancements primarily with Mainframe tools, Broadcom Gen, DB2, COBOL, CICS, SQL Server, tso, xTrace, GuardIEn and Team Foundation Server.
• Provide support to all Divisions in achieving their missions to help both employers and the Alaskan workforce.
