About The Position

The Washington Justice Information Systems (WAJIS) is a dedicated section within the Information Technology Division (ITD) devoted to supporting the criminal justice information systems and the business owner, the Justice Information Division (JID). The interrelated computer application systems that support the state criminal justice community include the state-wide message switch referred to as ACCESS, the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) which processes criminal and civil fingerprint identifications, Washington State Identification System (WASIS) which is the repository of criminal history, Washington Crime Information Center (WACIC), the law enforcement tracking database for stolen items, warrants, protection orders and other data critical to officer safety. Responsibilities also include Washington Access to the Criminal History (WATCH) - the online criminal history query system and PIIES, which is the online portal for secure Criminal History information transmissions.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in computer science or related field AND two years of work experience in information technology, such as an IT help desk, desktop support, IT program/project management, or volunteer work with computers.
  • OR Four years of experience in the information technology areas of application support and development, database management or system administration in an enterprise environment.
  • One year of using SQL to develop database reports or provide statistics upon request.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure regular system operation and uptime by monitoring system resources and processes.
  • Manage access rights for all agencies using the ACCESS system.
  • Investigate system issues by identifying and recording findings.
  • Assist with implementation and verification of modifications to the system and/or Omnixx application.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting support for switch connection and transaction issues.
  • Provide stand-by support to ensure 24/7 availability of the mission critical ACCESS system.
  • Actively monitor and assess health of data connections and processing queues.
  • Assist customers by providing technical specifications & resources, developing test cases and providing background validation of results.
  • Coordinate with various internal and external resources for appropriate scheduling of changes and updates.
  • Participate in collaboration and implementation planning.
  • Evaluate outcomes of application changes.
  • Provide transaction data upon request.
  • Use existing tools to provide statistical data on processes of the ACCESS message switch.
  • Analyze statistics to identify trends.
  • Assist senior teammates with planning reports and testing.
  • Author and maintain up-to-date documentation for the ACCESS system.
  • Assist with eliciting and documenting business/system requirements.
  • Collaborate to determine scope of the projected changes(s) and impact(s).
  • Use technical expertise to review requirements & provide recommendations.
  • Assist with development and verification of technical specifications.
