About The Position

This is a technical position responsible for supporting the end users of the City’s computer and network systems. The role assists with the installation and support of servers, networks, and other equipment and software. The IT Support Specialist interacts with vendors for the evaluation, installation, and support of hardware and software. The City of Greenacres' Compensation Plan allows for hiring at a maximum rate of up to 15% above the minimum range for the position based on education, experience, and valid proof of certification(s).

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited high school or obtained a State of Florida G.E.D. certificate or equivalent.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
  • Good moral character.
  • Submit to a post-offer physical examination.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Technology or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in IT Help desk.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in installation, configuration, and support of desktop computers or servers in a Windows environment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in installation, configuration, and support of network switches and cabling.
  • Possess and maintain State of Florida driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft MCP or MCSA.
  • Municipal government experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between end users and the IT Department.
  • Manage service desk tickets, providing timely Level I support and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues.
  • Install, configure, test, and support workstation hardware and software at all City locations.
  • Install, configure, test, and support desktop and mobile computer hardware and software, desktop IP phones, and City-issued cell phones.
  • Install, configure, test, and support network devices, cables, and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls).
  • Assist in generating and maintaining documentation of all systems, including operations manuals, knowledge bases, and user instructions.
  • Assist with daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
  • Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform system maintenance and install upgrades, including service packs, patches, and hotfixes.
  • Monitor system performance and report availability and/or reliability issues to the Systems Engineer.
  • Escalate service desk tickets to the Systems Engineer as necessary.
  • Help ensure the City’s data is protected against malware by verifying proper configuration of endpoint protection software.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Assist in repair and recovery from hardware or software failures or accidental loss.
  • Research and recommend innovative solutions to the City’s technology requirements.
  • Assist with developing and delivering training for City personnel in the appropriate use of Information Technology resources.
  • Communicate with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Serve as backup to the Systems Engineer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
