About The Position

I.T. Support Assistants support routine operations and problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions at a College or Unit. They work in technical support, applications development, operations, help desk, and similar environments, as well as in the field where equipment may be located. Work tasks include as: Operating, transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document and resolve problems Performing simple repairs to computing and related equipment. This job is in CUNY's Classified Civil Service. The full specification is available on our web site at http://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/hr/classified-civil-service/ccsjobs/ The Office of Information Technology Services supports all computing needs of the Brooklyn College community. Our primary objective is to align planning and processes to effectively and efficiently support, maintain and develop computing resources for the college. Under the direct supervision of ITS staff, the IT Support Assistant (Hourly) will act as a Smart Support technical specialist and will provide primary support to users of BC's smart Classrooms and computer labs, and will provide support for all equipment used for instructional purposes, as well as provide web/video conferencing support and training. Capture photos or videos to document the work performed for auditing purposes. The IT Support Assistant must be able to work rotating shift schedules including nights and/or weekends.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  • Eighteen months of related full-time work experience or equivalent, such as completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology
  • Demonstrated English Language proficiency
  • A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
  • Must be able to work rotating shift schedules including nights and/or weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MS Office suite, email and internet.
  • Experience with Creston/Extron audio-visual technologies preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting, and providing training for SMART TECH products, such as smart display monitors and SmartBoard's preferred.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot computer hardware issues for both PC and Mac computers.
  • A+ Certification and/or Apple certification a plus.
  • This position requires heavy lifting and moving of computer equipment.
