About The Position

The Division of Administration/Office of Technology Services has a vacancy. This position is located in the Data Center Operations Section. The Office of Technology Services (OTS) aims to be a responsible partner in delivering innovative, effective, and reliable solutions that support and enhance the IT functions within the Executive Branch Departments. The Office of Technology Services will work to increase the return on the State's investment in technology by promoting smart decision-making, solving problems intelligently, increasing the rate of project success, and fostering a skilled and professional staff. In the position of IT Statewide Engineer 1-3 DCO-Backup and Recovery, we are seeking an individual to provide dedicated subject matter expertise in critical technical areas. This role will lead efforts in billing operations, data migrations, and operational oversight and compliance, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to organizational standards. The Division of Administration is the state government’s management arm and the hub of its financial operations. Division offices perform a wide variety of activities including the following: Overseeing the state’s capital construction program, Working to provide state and federal grants for community development, Development of the state budget, Providing technology services, Giving agencies guidance in the state purchasing and contracting process as they seek goods and services, Administering a program that provides federal funds to help Louisiana residents recover from a series of devastating hurricanes.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in information technology or administrative services; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience in information technology or administrative services; OR An associate's degree in information technology plus three years of experience in information technology or administrative services; OR A bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience in information technology or administrative services; OR A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus two years of experience in information technology or administrative services; OR A master’s degree plus two years of experience in information technology or administrative services.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
  • A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.

Responsibilities

  • Mentors lower-level Engineers in the day-to-day administration and maintenance of the SAN/NAS, iSCSI/FC switch fabric networks, and Backup/Recovery for all lines of service that are supported by the OTS/DCO Storage Team.
  • Assumes lead coordinator role with the installation, maintenance, and modification of vendor-supplied software for Backup/Recovery, SAN/NAS, and switch configuration and management which are critical to business functions that require after-hours scheduling due to extensive availability requirements.
  • Perform modifications to vendor packages by designing work and specifications.
  • Consults regularly with vendors concerning software and /or hardware problems, resolutions and system performance.
  • Advises and consults with end-users, administrators, technical support personnel and consultants, designing and providing documentation, instruction, problem analysis and education pertaining to specific and highly complex areas of software performance.
  • Acts as a consultant to lower-level Engineers during migration projects of storage environments into our lines of service.
  • Consults with lower-level Engineers in the creation of Backup/Recovery jobs to accommodate customer supplied RPOs/RTOs for data recovery.
  • Provides advanced problem analysis and specialized technical expertise to end-users, administrators, technical support personnel and management consultants.
  • Mentors lower level team members.
  • Facilitates knowledge transfer and training.
  • Works with management to analyze and identify current and future needs and requirements in the area of Storage and Backup/Recovery products, including hardware and software, for OTS/DCO Storage lines of service.
  • Reviews hardware and software products and interfaces with vendor development and technical resources as needed.
  • Monitors and updates procedures, documentation, and change management logs in accordance with OTS guidelines.
  • Researches incidents for probable cause/solution during NOC incident calls.
  • Provides root cause analysis for incidents cause by SAN/NAS, iSCSI/FC switch, or Backup/Recovery hardware or software.
  • Takes the lead to follow up with vendors for permanent solutions.
  • Follows up with users and/or management when necessary.
  • Performs all other tasks, special projects, analysis, studies, and plans as directed.
