About The Position

The Division of Administration/Office of Technology Services has a vacancy. This position is located in Data Center Operations. Req 221795 The Office of Technology Services aims to be a responsible partner in delivering innovative, effective, and reliable solutions that support and enhance the IT functions within Executive Branch Departments. The Office of Technology Services will work to increase the return on the State's investment in technology by promoting smart decision-making, solving problems intelligently, increasing the rate of project success, and fostering a skilled and professional staff. This is a high level technical support position requiring the ability to provide technical leadership in the implementation and management of Windows servers. The incumbent will possess advanced, specialized skills in Windows server related products. The nature of the work is highly complex and requires a deep understanding of people, processes and technology within the context of a large enterprise and government environment. The incumbent is required to have in depth planning, design, and analysis skills. The incumbent may be required to coordinate and serve as liaison with multiple vendors for in-house and outsourced Windows server related initiatives. The Division of Administration is the state government’s management arm and the hub of its financial operations. Division offices perform a wide variety of activities including the following: Overseeing the state’s capital construction program Working to provide state and federal grants for community development Development of the state budget Providing technology services Giving agencies guidance in the state purchasing and contracting process as they seek goods and services Administering a program that provides federal funds to help Louisiana residents recover from a series of devastating hurricanes.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in information technology; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR An associate's degree in information technology; OR A bachelor’s degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any area. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any area.
  • NOTE: A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.
  • NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes lead responsibility for the day-to-day administration and maintenance of Windows servers for multiple state agencies that are supported by the Division of Administration's Technical Support staff.
  • Coordinates the installation, maintenance, and modification of vendor-supplied software for Windows server and related products which is critical to business functions and may require after-hours scheduling due to extensive availability requirements.
  • Recommends and implements standards, policies and procedures related to Windows servers for an enterprise server environment.
  • Consults regularly with vendors concerning software and /or hardware problems, resolutions and system performance.
  • Advises and consults with end-users, administrators, technical support personnel and consultants, designing and providing documentation, instruction, problem analysis and education pertaining to specific and highly complex areas of software performance.
  • Assists in the consolidation of all Windows server environments within the scope of the State IT consolidation effort.
  • Provides problem analysis and specialized technical expertise to end-users, administrators, technical support personnel and management consultants.
  • Mentors lower level team members.
  • Facilitates knowledge transfer and training.
  • Identifies and analyzes current and future needs and requirements in the area of Windows servers for the Division of Administration and other departments that are supported by OTS Windows Servers staff.
  • Reviews software products and interfaces with vendors as needed.
  • Monitors and updates procedures, documentation, and change management logs in accordance with OTS guidelines.
  • Provides problem determination for incident reports by the user community for the various departments pertaining to Windows servers. This includes hardware and software problems in the Windows server environment and/or related systems.
  • Follows up with users when necessary.
  • Advises and consults with management at multiple State agencies on acquisitions, capacity planning, problem diagnosis, technology advancements and trends.
  • Studies and reviews technical documents, literature and trade publications in the field of Information Technology and management.
  • Performs all other tasks, special projects, analysis, studies, and plans as directed.
