About The Position

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for an IT Specialist (Network/Sysadmin) within the Sustainment Automation Support Office (SASMO). The role involves providing support for Automated Logistics Information Systems and Programs to all State/Territories activities/organizations. The specialist will perform a wide range of specialized methods and techniques for planning, analyzing, and identifying problems to develop and implement resolutions for administrative and systemic programs throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • Must be eligible for military membership in the employing state's National Guard.
  • Must wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a two year trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must have a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment.
  • Must obtain security clearance within one year of appointment.
  • Must not have been convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence (Lautenberg Amendment).
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers.
  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment and must be achieved within six months of assignment.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and the employee is subject to random drug testing.
  • Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment.
  • General Experience: Experience, education, and/or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles.
  • Specialized Experience: One year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, involving techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area.
  • Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment, including coordination with others and development of project controls.
  • Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies.
  • Experience providing assistance to functional users in the identification of computer problems, troubleshooting diagnostics and resolution of technical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for Automated Logistics Information Systems and Programs to all State/Territories activities/organizations.
  • Perform a wide range of specialized methods/techniques for planning, analyzing, and identifying problems to develop and implement resolutions to administrative and systemic programs.
  • Research and resolve hardware, software, and applications program problems by troubleshooting and working with users, NGB support agencies, and/or manufacturer/vendors/representatives.
  • Evaluate trouble tickets escalated from the help desk, setting priorities on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Resolve issues and problems concerning the effectiveness and efficiency of automated logistical systems administrative and systemic work operations.
  • Determine systemic problems during maintenance of hardware or in the application of software and initiate corrective action.
  • Provide technical assistance including equipment operation and maintenance, and analytical techniques to test and analyze computer equipment malfunctions and software errors.
  • Assist functional users in identifying computer problems, troubleshooting diagnostics, and resolving technical problems identified in trouble tickets.
  • Perform initial setup of serviced automated logistics information system computers, including loading software, configuring modem and network card(s), assigning Internet Protocol (IP) addresses with correct subnet, and ensuring connectivity to the network.
  • Coordinate with other support personnel and complete technical inspections.
