About The Position

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an IT Senior Software Developer specializing in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to join their team. This role is crucial for developing solutions that enable manufacturing plants to monitor equipment and processes, driving continuous improvement. The developer will focus on extracting key data points from shop floor equipment to enhance software performance indicators, ultimately improving productivity, uptime, and efficiency. The position involves utilizing PTC KepWare and ThingWorx, specifically Digital Performance Management, to translate strategy into action by connecting live OPC tags and developing custom screens. The developer will collaborate with Manufacturing IT and business partners to provide insights into TEEP and OEE, fostering continuous improvements. A key aspect of the role is identifying and mitigating software risks early, employing the Scrum framework for agile adaptation. Responsibilities include architecting end-to-end IIoT solutions on the ThingWorx platform for real-time data collection, analysis, and visualization; developing applications, including user interfaces and Mashups; implementing industrial connectivity solutions using Kepware and integrating with enterprise systems via REST APIs; configuring and managing the ThingWorx platform; and providing technical leadership and mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field of study.
  • 2 years of experience in implementing industrial automation and/or IoT solutions for data contextualization, or related experience.
  • 2 years of experience using PTC ThingWorx, PTC Kepware, OSIsoft PI AF, or similar.
  • 2 years of database experience (MS SQL Server, or PostgreSQL).
  • 2 years of database experience with software version control and release management.
  • 2 years of experience in kepware and industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, and Modbus.
  • ThingWorx platform capabilities, including Mashups, data modeling, and extensions.
  • Programming languages commonly used for ThingWorx development, including JavaScript and Python.
  • Designing and developing systems integrations using REST APIs.
  • Full-stack development and Agile software development processes.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Manufacturing, IT, and Engineering to build solutions that enable manufacturing plants to monitor their equipment and processes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Highlight key data points from the shop floor equipment to highlight software performance indicators to improve productivity, uptime and efficiency.
  • Use PTC KepWare and ThingWorx’s, specifically, Digital Performance Management.
  • Connect live OPC tags and develop custom screens in ThingWorx and DPM.
  • Enable manufacturing plants to drive continuous improvements through TEEP and OEE insights.
  • Identify pertinent software risks early, and adapt with agility, using the Scrum framework.
  • Architecting end-to-end IIoT solutions that leverage the ThingWorx platform for real-time data collection, analysis, and visualization.
  • Creating applications, including user interfaces and Mashups, to display data, monitor assets, and support operational workflows.
  • Implementing industrial connectivity solutions, often using Kepware, and integrating with existing enterprise systems via REST APIs and other protocols.
  • Configuring and managing the ThingWorx platform, including users, infrastructure, and ensuring its performance and scalability.
  • Providing technical guidance, mentoring teams, and ensuring the successful implementation and deployment of IIoT projects.
