About The Position

The Strategic Technology Division (STD) of the New York City Police Department is seeking a qualified candidate to perform duties related to IT security. STD is responsible for developing and coordinating emergency technology applications, strategic IT infrastructure, and enterprise platforms. The role involves planning, defining, and maintaining security policies, standards, and procedures, as well as managing data security, confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The specialist will monitor industry developments, ensure compliance with security policies, and consult with executives on IT security matters. This position also requires identifying potential system exposures and design flaws, implementing and supporting Cisco-centric network infrastructure, and providing support to various IT teams on new technologies. Additionally, the role involves providing security design assistance, managing remote access technologies, and working with emerging technologies like SD-Wan and Cisco ACI.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to projects and policies required by the particular position; or, Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, define and maintain policies, standards, configuration and operating procedures and guidelines regarding security, identity and access.
  • Define, manage and monitor data security, confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Monitors industry developments; liaises with vendors.
  • Ensures compliance with Citywide and agency security policies and standards.
  • Recommends updates and improvements to agency security policies and standards.
  • Consults with agency executives to provide IT Security Policy guidance.
  • Identifies probable system exposure, compromise, problems or design flaws and escalates issues to upper management to limit serious performance impact.
  • Design, implement and support Cisco-centric WAN, LAN, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Offers support to application development, network, server, database and storage teams regarding new technologies, services, and system requirements.
  • Provide security design assistance on new products and internally developed projects.
  • Manage and support remote access technologies (VPN, Terminal Services, etc.)
  • Work with emerging technologies such as SD-Wan, Cisco ACI, and data center products.
  • Lead complex Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) configurations in terms of inter VRF routing through firewalls, and service changing.
