About The Position

This position will coordinate project team activities with occasional guidance, including collaborating with investigators to manage current projects, as well as secure additional projects, and managing the relationship between investigators and the informatics group. The role involves identifying appropriate resources, developing schedules for timely project completion, and coordinating team activities such as creating assignments, distributing workload, performing training, and providing general supervision. The IT Project Manager will implement small development projects or components of large projects and coordinate technical infrastructure and resource allocation between the informatics group and other technical groups within Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The position is a full-time/exempt term position lasting six months to one year. The Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (VICTR) is Vanderbilt’s virtual home for clinical and translational research, supported by VUMC’s Office of Research and the NIH-sponsored Clinical and Translational Service Award (CTSA). VICTR's mission is to transform how ideas and research discoveries move from origin to patient care, providing tools and support to improve research quality, publications, grant writing, and training.

Requirements

  • Understanding of basic statistical concepts (e.g., descriptive statistics, confidence intervals, regression).
  • Ability to retrieve, analyze, and validate data to answer straightforward business questions using common analytics tools.
  • Beginner to intermediate proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably SQL or Python.
  • Ability to translate analytic findings into clear visualizations and written summaries for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing reports, slide decks, or summary briefs for leadership or research teams.
  • Familiarity with working with healthcare, clinical, or administrative datasets.
  • Ability to learn rapidly about new technologies and methods.

  • Provide communication buffer between stakeholders and developers.
  • Effectively transmit technical and business ideas and information to others, including non-technical audiences.
  • Share knowledge, ideas and information openly, and effectively sell new ideas and influence others.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders to keep them informed about development progress and any potential barriers that may arise.
  • Provide regular updates to project team regarding development progress (quick messages, calls, screenshots, documentation, or demonstrations).
  • Immediately communicate any potential delays in project development to investigators, with explanation of the delay and potential solutions.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members.
  • Lead vision, roadmap, deliverables for products.
  • Provide direction on development, execution and monitoring of product roadmaps.
  • Coordinate and oversee all phases of the project.
  • Perform project tracking and reporting relative to task completion dates, dependency effects, problem anticipation, schedule conflicts, and assignment to appropriate staff for resolution.
  • Monitor percent complete for project milestones to forecast any potential timeline barriers.
  • Manage prioritization procedures for changing scope (change management) and project acceptance procedures.
  • Measure progress toward goals and revise project objectives and documents applying change control procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for resolving issues and seeing work through to successful completion.
  • Provide training to project managers and others on project related templates and toolsets.
  • Develop methods to measure customer satisfaction and obtain feedback at critical milestones and at project completion.
  • Participate in internal testing of developed technology.
  • Strongly suggest and provide time for iterative user acceptance testing by investigator’s/end user’s team.
  • Analyze moderately complex problems using technical experience and judgement.
  • Identify issues before they become problems and assign those issues to the right people at the right time.
  • Anticipate and resolve unplanned project issues as they arise.
  • Propose solutions for any barriers that arise with collaboration from development team and investigator.
  • Triage any reports of bugs to appropriate development team member for quick resolution.
  • Following an initial feasibility meeting, provide investigators with timeline estimate based on project scope.
  • Create project plan with milestones and timeline that fit the project’s budget.
  • Forecast complex resource needs, identify and break work down into discrete and measurable tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, prepare acceptance criteria and organize work for one or more large projects.
  • Plan for and anticipate events outside of immediate responsibility.
  • Anticipate problems and obstacles before they arise.
  • Set priorities with a proper sense of urgency and importance.
  • Develop creative ideas and take innovative action to achieve planned goals and objectives.
