IT Project Manager

Rivian and Volkswagen Group TechnologiesPalo Alto, CA
$149,700 - $187,100Hybrid

About The Position

Our Enterprise IT team operates as the internal technology backbone — keeping the engineering org running so they can focus on building great vehicles. RV Tech Enterprise IT is managing a significant and growing portfolio of technology programs — from an SAP implementation to HRIS rollout, JSM migration, LMS go-live, and incoming developer platform work. We are looking for an IT Project Manager who is not just a strong individual contributor, but someone with the instinct and ambition to eventually lead and shape our PMO function. This role is a deliberate investment in PMO leadership capacity. You will own delivery across multiple concurrent programs today, while building the frameworks, standards, and team culture that will define how EIT manages its portfolio for years to come. The right person will grow into a PMO Lead role as the function matures. This role is located in our Palo Alto, Ca or Irvine, CA office, flex 3 days onsite a week.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of IT project management experience, with at least 2 years leading programs independently end-to-end
  • Demonstrated experience building or improving PMO processes, not just operating within them
  • Hands-on experience with Jira or equivalent project tracking tools at a program level — portfolios, not just tickets
  • Strong written and verbal communication — your status updates are concise, accurate, and audience-aware up to VP level
  • Experience coordinating with both technical teams (engineering, infrastructure) and business stakeholders (HR, Finance, Operations)
  • Familiarity with enterprise software implementations (ERP, HRIS, ITSM, or similar)

Nice To Haves

  • PMP, PMI-ACP, or equivalent certification is a strong plus

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end project management for 2–3 concurrent IT programs at any given time
  • Project planning, milestone tracking, risk management, and stakeholder communication
  • Maintain Jira as the system of record — keep tickets, epics, and program boards current and accurate
  • Run weekly project syncs, produce concise status updates, and escalate blockers proactively
  • Coordinate cross-functional dependencies between IT, HR, Finance, and Engineering stakeholders
  • Design and own PMO standards, templates, and delivery frameworks — not just follow them
  • Mentor and develop junior project management capability on the team
  • Support vendor and partner management for project-scoped SOWs

Benefits

  • base salary
  • eligibility for an annual performance bonus
  • eligibility for equity
