About The Position

Job Summary Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency. The Nevada Cannabis Control Board is recruiting for an IT Professional 3 based in either Carson City or Las Vegas. The incumbent will work closely with State staff and external vendors to develop effective data management solutions, support, and manage SQL servers, ensure cross platform functionality, and create in house applications that improve workflow efficiency. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, configuring, and maintaining servers, implementing security measures, addressing staff concerns, and contributing to overall system stability and reliability. This position performs advanced professional work in analyzing user requirements and developing computer based solutions. Duties include evaluating hardware and software tools, defining project objectives, and creating logical models and implementation plans for complex initiatives. The incumbent must demonstrate a strong understanding of user needs, design system components, and complete development activities such as coding, testing, documentation, and deployment. Additional responsibilities include providing technical consultation and training, coordinating with other agencies, maintaining current coding practices, supporting prototype development, and enhancing testing and validation procedures. The role carries significant operational impact, requiring the incumbent to manage broad scope projects, resolve design conflicts, and perform cost benefit analysis of technical options. Work products directly affect numerous users and agency programs. This position also includes full scope database administration responsibilities. The incumbent functions independently to define database architecture at an advanced level and manage multiple statewide databases for the agency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Detailed knowledge of basic elements of programming in order to generate all required reports and special projects as required of the data processing section.

Responsibilities

  • Develop effective data management solutions, support, and manage SQL servers, ensure cross platform functionality, and create in house applications that improve workflow efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, configure, and maintain servers, implement security measures, address staff concerns, and contribute to overall system stability and reliability.
  • Evaluate hardware and software tools, define project objectives, and create logical models and implementation plans for complex initiatives.
  • Design system components and complete development activities such as coding, testing, documentation, and deployment.
  • Provide technical consultation and training, coordinate with other agencies, maintain current coding practices, support prototype development, and enhance testing and validation procedures.

  • Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations and expenditure decisions, tracking, and recording expenditures, preparing purchase requests, and writing technical requirements for grant proposals.
