About The Position

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR) protects, manages, and enhances the State's resources to provide the highest quality of life for Nevada's citizens and visitors. The NDCNR Bureau of Information Services (BITS) is recruiting for an IT Professional 3 located in our Carson City office. This role involves supervising and supporting IT staff, managing active directory, maintaining asset management software, and providing server support including server applications. The incumbent will provide Tier 2 and 3 support for helpdesk issues, including email and application problems, and record calls using the help desk application. They must be able to prioritize helpdesk tickets, emails, and phone calls based on the level of support needed. This position will also perform LAN/WAN administration, including managing the Department's firewalls, routers, and network switches, as well as remote office equipment and connectivity, under the direction of the IT Manager 2. IT Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Duties may span multiple IT specialization areas based on agency needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Detailed knowledge of systems administration.
  • Working knowledge of principles of designing test procedures.
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures required to design, analyze, and maintain software.
  • Working knowledge of principles, tools, and techniques as applied to writing and modifying programs.
  • Working knowledge of systems programming languages and techniques.
  • General knowledge of capacity planning techniques.
  • General knowledge of performance monitoring principles and related software products.
  • General knowledge of telecommunication technology and related systems software.
  • General knowledge of various systems software products and their interrelationships.
  • General knowledge of vendor procedures for applying maintenance and temporary fixes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate and tailor information system hardware and/or software to meet local requirements.
  • Ability to implement auxiliary software and subsystems.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to provide mid-level technical consultation and training.
  • Ability to recommend and implement system changes.
  • Skill in implementing changes to a variety of networking systems.
  • Skill in managing large volumes of data on various storage media.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support an IT Professional 2 and an IT Technician IV.

  • Conduct detailed alternative analyses and determine end-user requirements through consultation with end-users, technicians, vendors, management, and others.
  • Maintain documentation related to the assigned IT specialization’s architecture, operations, and other records of work activities as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technological trends and advancements in the IT field as well as security management practices, laws, policies, and ethics.
  • Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations and expenditure decisions, tracking, and recording expenditures, preparing purchase requests, and writing technical requirements for grant proposals.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned.
  • Function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
