About The Position

IT Oracle Database Administrator Company: The Boeing Company Boeing is seeking a Mid Level Information Technology Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to join our enterprise data and platform teams. The Mid Level IT Oracle DBA will assist in the administration, support, and optimization of relational Oracle database systems that underpin critical business applications. This role provides an opportunity to learn enterprise-grade database operations, performance tuning, backup/recovery, security controls, and automation in a highly regulated aerospace environment. Prefer candidate to be someone in Southern California, but will consider candidates in St. Louis, Dallas, and Renton, WA areas. Key responsibilities Command-Line Operations: Learn to manage and configure complex Oracle environments using the Linux/Unix command line. We focus on a "low-level" approach where we prioritize command-line tools over standard GUIs. Production Support: Participate in 24x7x365 on-call support rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays. You will assist in supporting real-time environments and help resolve user requests. Compliance & Procedures: Follow strictly documented procedural workflows to ensure SOX compliance. You will learn to represent these processes during internal and external audits. Data Tasks: Assist with data movement and logical backups using tools like expdp/impdp. Process Adherence: Carefully follow internal change management procedures, ensuring every task is performed with a cautious and detail-oriented mindset. Assist in installation, configuration, and patching of Oracle database. Support database provisioning, schema deployment, and change management in collaboration with development and platform teams. Monitor database health and performance; help diagnose and resolve performance issues and bottlenecks. Support backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures and testing. Implement and help maintain database security controls, access management, and audit logging to meet compliance requirements. Participate in capacity planning and resource optimization activities. Create and maintain operational runbooks, standard operating procedures, and documentation. Assist with automation of routine DBA tasks using scripting or orchestration tools. Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, application, and security teams to support database migrations, upgrades, and integration. Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience administering databases or supporting database-backed applications.
  • Oracle Foundation: Familiarity with a modern version of Oracle (such as 19c) and an understanding of core database architecture.
  • Linux/Unix Basics: Comfortable working in a Linux/Unix command-line environment.
  • Editor & Shell: Familiarity with Vi (or a strong willingness to learn it immediately) and basic Korn Shell (ksh) or SQL knowledge.
  • Attitude: A strong teaming attitude and the humility to ask for help when faced with complex or ambiguous requirements.
  • Detail-Oriented: Ability to remain focused and precise when following technical checklists and audit procedures.
  • Basic understanding of relational database concepts (schemas, indexes, transactions, normalization) and SQL.
  • Familiarity with Oracle or at least one major RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Basic knowledge of backup/restore concepts, high availability, and disaster recovery principles.
  • Do you have Scripting ability (e.g., Bash, Ksh, Python).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across operations, development, and security teams.
  • Eligibility to work in the job location and meet export control or program security requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience administering databases or supporting database-backed applications.
  • Patching Knowledge: Any exposure to or interest in learning the Oracle patching cycle (OPatch).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal skills for explaining technical workflows during team meetings or compliance reviews and audits.
  • Curiosity: A strong desire to understand the "under the hood" mechanics of Oracle that differ from other platforms like SQL Server.
  • Understanding of database security best practices, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Certifications such as Oracle Certified Associate,
  • Prior experience in aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries.
