About The Position

The IT Operations Specialist is responsible for the physical handling, organization, and lifecycle management of IT equipment. Responsibilities includes receiving and unpacking new inventory equipment, labeling and tagging assets, moving and organizing equipment within designated storage areas, and preparing devices for deployment or disposal. The position plays a key role in maintaining accurate and efficient asset records, ensuring proper equipment handling, and upholding IT asset management standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience with basic IT hardware and peripherals.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware components.
  • Ability to use asset management or ticketing systems.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to handling equipment securely and responsibly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a warehouse, IT support, or logistics role.
  • Experience with inventory management systems.
  • Technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, ITIL Foundation, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Unbox and inspect incoming IT equipment (e.g., laptops, desktops, monitors, printers, networking gear).
  • Verify delivery contents against purchase orders and report discrepancies.
  • Label and tag equipment with asset tracking identifiers.
  • Physically organize and store IT equipment in designated locations, ensuring proper safety and accessibility.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of IT storage areas.
  • Track asset locations using inventory management systems or spreadsheets.
  • Prepare IT equipment for deployment to end users, including kitting (e.g., mouse, keyboard, cables).
  • Retrieve decommissioned or surplus hardware from workstations or departments.
  • Ensure secure handling of sensitive or high-value hardware.
  • Prepare outdated or non-functional IT assets for proper disposal or recycling, following organizational and regulatory policies.
  • Remove storage devices (e.g., hard drives) for secure data destruction when required.
  • Maintain documentation for disposed or retired assets.
  • Collaborate with IT support staff to coordinate equipment needs and deployments.
  • Assist with hardware troubleshooting or set-up during deployments or refresh cycles.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with periodic audits.
