This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT). This mid-level position reports to the Assistant Director, Network Engineering, within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park. The role involves planning, designing, and implementing wired and wireless network infrastructure improvements and new capabilities, including stakeholder meetings, requirements identification, and coordination of workstreams. It also includes designing, developing, and supporting the network infrastructure throughout its lifecycle, encompassing entities like copper and fiber infrastructure, routers, switches, VPN systems, firewalls, IPS systems, load balancers, VoIP, wireless infrastructure, and monitoring systems. Ensuring network documentation is up-to-date, including design documents, purpose statements, requirements, test plans, as-built diagrams, and run books, is also a key responsibility. The position requires presenting technical designs and training to mixed audiences, mentoring colleagues, and participating in an on-call rotation with some support outside of business hours. This is considered an essential position and may require working at the normal work location or an alternative location during emergencies to maintain University services. The role may also require working evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.
