About The Position

The Network Engineer performs advanced, specialized work of a professional nature, to utilize skills requiring technical expertise and an understanding of complex analytical procedures, programming and systems processes while working with a significant amount of independent authority and judgment. Incumbents may lead a project team or provide expertise in information systems analysis, to include definition of user requirements, feasibility studies, design, program specifications, testing, and implementation.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Networking, Computer Science, or related field.
Eight (8) years of work experience as a network engineer managing a wireless network.
Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.
Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination.
Adherence to all County safety guidelines.
Complete all FEMA training(s) assigned to this position.
Possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license by the date of hire and maintenance of a valid license while employed in this position.
Complete required supervisor training, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

Cisco Network Certification (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of highly complex analytical duties in the planning, development, installation, implementation, integration, testing and evaluation of the computer network systems, telecommunication hardware and software, and local area networks.
Ensures the availability of networking services; coordinates with clients to determine network systems requirements; studies the integrity and security of data to establish system configuration; monitors systems to control and support network traffic; devises and implements strategies for connection of independent networks.
Actively engage and participate in the evaluation of network protocols, hardware and software to determine their applicability to County network needs; assist in the selection process; coordinate the installation and maintenance of computers, circuits and data communications equipment; configure routers, switches and other devices.
Oversees the integrity and security of County networks and all related components, including the human element, physical and virtual servers, domain controllers, desktops, laptops, printers and other devices which utilize the County network; scans and monitors network activity, troubleshoots and resolves network performance issues.
Serves as the project lead over moderate/large network analysis projects; develops and monitors project budgets and resources; interfaces with management to define project scope and review project activities, recommendations and outcomes; coordinates the use of project resources based on project requirements; designs and implements testing and quality assurance processes.
Provides recommendations for improving hardware and/or software in order to accomplish business goals; recommends and/or implements operating system adjustments to maximize application performance and resource resolution.
Serves as a technical expert within area of assignment, providing guidance and direction to other professional staff and resolving complex network problems; participates in developing strategic plans.
May lead the work of subordinate professional information technology staff within an assigned work unit; directs the work of peers and/or subordinate professional information technology staffed on assigned projects as needed.
Prepares reports, correspondence and other documents; participates on committees and task forces; attends meetings, conferences and training sessions.
