As an IT Network Engineer II/III with a firewall and security engineering focus at APS, you play a critical role in protecting the communication networks that keep Arizona’s energy infrastructure running. Your work strengthens the security and resilience of APS’s systems—reducing cyber risk, supporting regulatory compliance, and enabling safe, reliable delivery of power to the communities we serve. By modernizing and safeguarding network defenses, you help APS adapt to evolving threats while maintaining the trust our customers and regulators depend on.

Requirements

  • Experience deploying, configuring, and supporting enterprise firewall and network security technologies in a production environment.
  • Working knowledge of network monitoring, incident response, and security controls that support high-availability systems.
  • Comfort working with compliance documentation and supporting regulatory or audit activities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in an environment where reliability and security are essential.
  • A collaborative, dependable teammate who takes ownership and values protecting critical infrastructure.
  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field PLUS two (2) year of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience (for IT Network Engineer II).
  • Requires working technical knowledge gained through experience within a job area or system (for IT Network Engineer II).
  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field PLUS five (5) years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience (for IT Network Engineer III).
  • Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas (for IT Network Engineer III).

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support firewall and network security solutions that protect APS’s enterprise and operational environments.
  • Manage and improve firewall policies and network controls to balance strong security with business performance and availability.
  • Partner with security, operations, and compliance teams to support audits and regulatory requirements, including NERC CIP.
  • Respond to security and network incidents, participating in on-call rotations to restore service quickly and reduce risk.
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives such as firewall hygiene improvements, secure remote access, and automation that reduces technical debt and improves reliability.
  • Under general direction, responsible for the acquisition, installation, maintenance, evaluation and usage of network solutions.
  • Provides basic level troubleshooting with network equipment.
  • Trains users on network operation.
  • Analyzes network requirements and capacity.
  • Assists network and architecture design, feasibility and cost studies.
  • Assists in implementation and support of the network infrastructure.
  • Monitors performance and efficiency of the network.
  • May help train and assist entry level employees.
