About The Position

Serves as the first level professional manager responsible for leading the activities of the Custom Support Unit which provides development and support services to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). This position manages client relationships, ongoing maintenance activities, and supports highly visible systems including Public Transportation Management System and MiRail. The position is also responsible for the daily management of multiple IT resources (specialists, programmer/analysts, and consultants), including project and task resourcing, providing guidance and assistance in establishing priority for all work being done, and ensuring the work is completed in an efficient and timely manner. The person in this position must be thoroughly knowledgeable in software development, configuration, troubleshooting, and have a working knowledge of the technologies used in the unit. The position also requires considerable contact with other department managers, administrators, and resources within and outside the division to ensure necessary IT services are provided to MDOT.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree with not less than 21 semester (32 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, IT project management or mathematics.
  • Three years of professional experience equivalent to an Information Technology Infrastructure, Programmer/Analyst or IT Project Coordinator P11 or one year equivalent to an Information Technology Infrastructure, Programmer/Analyst or IT Project Coordinator 12.
  • Three years of experience as a computer programming supervisor or Information Technology Supervisor may be substituted for the education and experience.
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable in software development, configuration, troubleshooting, and have a working knowledge of the technologies used in the unit.
  • Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three business days of beginning employment.
  • Selected candidates who have been approved to work a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan.

  • The official transcript must be scanned and attached to the electronic NEOGOV Civil Service application with one of the following file extensions: pdf, doc, docx, txt, or rft.
  • Degree certificates are not accepted.
  • When attaching transcripts, please name the college/university for each transcript attached.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring necessary IT services are provided to MDOT through considerable contact with other department managers, administrators, and resources within and outside the division.

Benefits

  • Sign-on bonus up to $3,500. Up to $1,750 to be paid upon new hire and the remainder to be paid after satisfactory completion of the initial probationary period (12-month period). This does not apply to current state employees.
