About The Position

The Help Desk Technician serves as the first point of contact for IT-related issues within Whitaker Construction, providing technical support to business users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and assisting with system administration tasks as needed. This is an entry-level position, and the successful candidate will be expected to grow into Desktop Support, Application Support, Network Support, and Server Support roles over time. Whitaker Holdings is a 100% employee-owned (ESOP) family of companies with over 70 years of experience in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, and telecommunications. Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Fundamentals are a plus.
  • Experience with IT help desk software and remote desktop tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and enterprise-level IT environments is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, networking, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve basic IT issues in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn and grow within the IT field.
  • Ability to multitask and handle multiple issues simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for computers, mobile devices, printers, software applications, and network connectivity.
  • Respond to help desk tickets, phone calls, and emails, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and basic network issues for employees in office and field environments.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows devices, mobile devices, and business-critical applications.
  • Assist with user account management, including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and security permissions.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Educate employees on best practices for cybersecurity, data protection, and IT procedures.
  • Assist in the setup of new employee workstations and ensure proper IT onboarding.
  • Document troubleshooting steps and solutions in the IT knowledge base.
  • Work alongside senior IT staff to gain exposure to networking, server management, and cloud administration.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend improvements to IT processes.
  • Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and standards of safety.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.
