IT Field Technician - On Call - Greater Philadelphia & Tri-State Area
About The Position
Geeks On Site is hiring experienced field IT technicians to provide on-site technology support to residential and small-business customers. The primary focus is computer troubleshooting, networking support, printer configuration, and general on-site IT service. Depending on experience, technicians may also receive POS installation and support or outdoor TV mounting assignments. This is an on-call, 1099 independent contractor role with flexible scheduling and no guaranteed hours. Technicians set their availability and driving radius and accept jobs that fit their proximity, skills, route, and availability. Jobs are dispatched based on those factors. Remote dispatch and technical support are available. The role serves customers in the Greater Philadelphia and Tri-State Area, with the posting also describing local, onsite support in multiple U.S. cities. Pay is $35 per hour for on-site IT and POS work. Outdoor TV mounting starts at $100 per mounted device, with the amount varying if a helper is required. Applicants complete an introductory call, electronic onboarding paperwork and tax forms, and a mandatory background check before activation.
Requirements
- Two or more years of experience in IT support or field service.
- Strong networking and diagnostic skills.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work independently and provide professional customer service.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Own the required tools: a laptop, drill, screwdrivers, cable tester, and RJ45 tools.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair Windows and macOS issues.
- Resolve Wi-Fi, router, and wired-network problems.
- Install and configure printers and scanners.
- Replace or upgrade hardware components.
- Reinstall operating systems using bootable tools.
- Document work and communicate clearly with customers.
- Install and support POS systems and run Cat5e or Cat6 cabling.
- Perform outdoor TV mounting and basic AV setup.
