About The Position
Geeks On Site is hiring experienced field IT technicians to support residential and small business customers. The company provides nationwide computer repair and technology support for homes and businesses, remotely and on-site. Services include computer repair, IT support, smart home installation, and a range of in-home and business technology services. This is a flexible, on-call independent contractor (1099) role with no guaranteed hours. Technicians set their availability and driving radius and may accept jobs that match their proximity, skills, route, and availability. Work is performed onsite. The primary focus is computer troubleshooting, networking support, printer configuration, and general onsite IT service; technicians may also receive POS or outdoor TV mounting assignments depending on experience. IT and POS work pays $35 per hour for onsite time. Outdoor TV mounting starts at $65 per mounted device, with rates varying if a helper is required. A dispatch and technical support team is available to provide remote assistance. Applicants must complete onboarding paperwork and tax forms electronically and pass a mandatory background check before activation.
Requirements
- At least two years of experience in IT support or field service.
- Strong networking and diagnostic skills.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
- Ability to work independently and provide professional customer service.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Own required tools, including a laptop, drill, screwdrivers, cable tester, and RJ45 tools.
- Complete a mandatory background check before activation.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair Windows and macOS issues.
- Resolve Wi-Fi, router, and wired network problems.
- Install and configure printers and scanners.
- Replace or upgrade hardware components.
- Reinstall operating systems using bootable tools.
- Document work and communicate clearly with customers.
- Install and support POS systems and run Cat5e or Cat6 cabling.
- Perform outdoor TV mounting and basic AV setup.
- Set availability in the technician portal and accept jobs matching availability, proximity, route, and skills.
