About The Position

Thorn SDS is a specialist Managed Service Provider dedicated to helping technology-driven organisations and professionals succeed in some of the world’s most demanding environments—Space, Defence, and Security. We deliver technical expertise across mission-critical environments where precision, reliability, and trusted partnerships are essential. Based within our German entity in the Darmstadt region — at the heart of Europe’s space operations community — this role supports a critical multi-mission IT service for our client. We are recruiting multiple Level 1 IT Engineers across Computing, Storage, Networking, and Security disciplines to support one of Europe’s leading operational satellite environments. This is an opportunity to work within an international, collaborative environment where technology directly supports global weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and satellite operations. The team supports a large-scale operational infrastructure environment including: Mission-critical command centre infrastructure supporting Flight Operations, Computing platforms used for satellite data processing, Enterprise storage, backup and data distribution services, Network infrastructure including campus, remote connectivity and perimeter services, Security monitoring, policy enforcement and operational assurance, Datacentre facilities including racks, power and cabling infrastructure. The environment combines enterprise IT operations with real-world operational impact in an international space and meteorological setting.

Requirements

  • Windows or Linux systems administration
  • IT support or service desk operations
  • Enterprise networking technologies
  • Cyber security operations or monitoring
  • Storage, backup or datacentre technologies
  • Monitoring and incident management tools
  • ITIL or operational service environments
  • Positive, team-oriented people who enjoy solving problems and working in a collaborative international environment
  • Must already hold the Right to Work in Germany

Responsibilities

  • Providing user-facing technical support and troubleshooting
  • First-line monitoring across compute, storage, network and security systems
  • Incident handling, escalation and service request management
  • Supporting datacentre walkthroughs and hardware checks
  • Cable management and physical infrastructure support
  • Monitoring system alerts and coordinating escalations
  • Assisting operational teams to maintain service availability
