IT Data Analyst

Old World IndustriesNorthbrook, IL
$70,000 - $80,000

About The Position

The Data Analyst will be part of the OWI Analytics team, partnering closely with business stakeholders to translate business questions into structured analyses that drive decision-making. This role goes beyond report production — it requires understanding the "why" behind a request, identifying the right data and methodology, and delivering insights that business partners can act on.

Requirements

  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI (required)
  • Working knowledge of SAP as an ERP/data validation source
  • Entry-level SQL proficiency for data querying and mining
  • Entry-level experience with data analytics concepts — data dictionaries, data mapping, normalization concepts
  • Basic project management and business process modeling
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or closely related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and business audiences
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve problems effectively and in a timely manner

Nice To Haves

  • DEX (Deployment Pipelines/Dataflows Experience) knowledge strongly preferred
  • Exposure to AI-assisted analytics tools (Copilot, generative AI for BI) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Learn and map business processes end-to-end with stakeholders to identify the KPIs that genuinely measure performance for that process, then determine what data is required to analyze both the KPI itself and the underlying factors driving its performance
  • Partner with the Data Engineering and Data Science teams to translate those KPI and data requirements into validated data models — confirming the models actually deliver on the business objective identified in the step above, not just that they're technically complete
  • Partner with business stakeholders to scope analytical requests, clarify objectives, and identify the right metrics and data sources before analysis begins
  • Create visualizations that provide business insights for our global customers — dashboards, cash-flow projections, histograms, projective analysis, financial analysis, KPIs, and SLA reporting
  • Use SQL to independently mine data and translate business needs into clear, creative visualizations
  • Validate data and reporting outputs against SAP as the source-of-truth ERP, identifying and resolving discrepancies before they reach stakeholders
  • Assess data quality and flag data quality issues to the Data Warehouse team; support data governance practices
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., Copilot in Power BI, generative AI for data exploration and narrative summaries) to accelerate insight generation and surface patterns in large datasets
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and sound judgment to offer thoughtful, concise input toward problem resolution
  • Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, functional teams, and other data analysts to develop insight-driven visualizations
  • Support requirements gathering, design, deployment, and change management for reporting projects (entry-level project management)
  • Build and demo prototypes to stakeholders — peer groups, business partners, and senior leaders
  • Support and train peers/SMEs on report usage, troubleshooting, and results analysis
  • Develop leadership skills to promote ideas, coordinate work, and plan deliverables within a project team
