About The Position

The IT Department for Vantage Data Centers is very hands on. In most cases, we specify, purchase, configure and maintain all networking and server hardware. We also work closely with partner VARs to learn about the latest technology changes so we can make informed purchase decisions. The IT department is always looking for ways to strike the best balance between technology, performance and cost. Vantage IT also participates in designing each of our new data center building’s networking infrastructure, including but not limited to: diverse pathways connecting to carriers, meet-me room (MMR) hosting (rack, cabs, ladders, cross connect panels…), wireless AP coverage, etc. If you like getting your hands dirty and helping to design, build and maintain IT infrastructure in a modern data center, then come work at Vantage. We’re expanding with many new builds! This role will be based onsite in Port Washington, WI. The IT Construction Engineer is responsible for delivering a professional technical support service to external and internal customers of Vantage. The role requires creating solutions to hardware and software problems while working per company policy and predefined SLAs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Minimum three years of data center or relevant work experience deploying IT services to new construction.
  • Technical knowledge covering Windows Server and Desktop, Active Directory, VMWare vSphere/ESX, Office 365, Firewalls, Security, Storage, Backup Technologies, and Networking.
  • Ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports and presentation skills.
  • Candidates must possess reliable transportation for reporting to work for shifts or emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant technical certifications, such as CCNA or VCP certification, are preferred.
  • Experience working within critically important facilities and/or critical infrastructure is preferred.
  • Experience with Arista, deployment experience with Fortinet is preferred.
  • Project management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Domain Expert representing the IT department for all construction projects.
  • Strong background in designing and implementing fault-tolerant IT networks.
  • Strong background in designing and building Hypervisors, Windows, and Linux servers.
  • Maintain deadlines and communication with Construction Project Managers and General Contractors.
  • Work under limited supervision, both independently and within a team environment.
  • Manage multiple one-time and/or ongoing projects.
  • Respond to safety and emergency situations and maintain a safe and secure work environment.
  • Use discretion and judgment in organizing workflow and adapting as priorities are modified due to a changing environment.
  • Frequent contact with employees at all levels of the organization; frequent external contact with vendors.
  • Provide guidance and support to Construction Project Managers and General Contractors, ensuring compliance with VDC IT-approved standards and best practices.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.
  • Provide professional mentorship and specialist advice to the business on both systems and project matters, ensuring projects are initiated accurately, and appropriate levels of governance are applied.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to craft technology solutions to fit the project's needs.
  • Development of business cases, whole life costing analysis, and ensuring briefs and feasibility proposals are developed following business aims.
  • Supporting projects to remain within budget and time parameters, identifying and planning effective use of internal and external resources.
  • Manage any incidents/software defects, critical issues, and change program.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to configure, optimize, and extend systems to meet business requirements, ensuring seamless integration with existing platforms and processes.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and General Contractors to provide guidance, support, and technical solutions that enable successful project delivery.
  • Support the Senior Manager and Lead Engineer, Information Technology, in delivering services that are essential to the success of the business.
