About The Position

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), IT Section is recruiting for an IT Client Support Specialist 2. This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at a range 16. This position requires full-time on-site work at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to facilitate collaboration with various divisions supported by DAS' IT Section. Remote work may be permitted up to two days a week and is subject to the hiring manager’s approval. As a member of the IT team at DMVA's DAS division, your responsibilities include delivering comprehensive end-user and desktop support, managing network services for both local and remote users, and assisting with the planning, setup, configuration, and maintenance of servers, networks, microcomputers, printers, and telecom equipment. You will work under the supervision of the Microcomputer/Network Specialist, ensuring seamless operation and support of IT systems vital to the department's mission. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is dedicated to deploying motivated, effective professionals to support global, theater, and state initiatives, including disaster response, veteran services, youth education, and leadership development. Our IT section ensures reliable service delivery by maintaining and updating infrastructure, hardware, and software in compliance with security standards. As an IT Client Support Specialist 2, you play a crucial role in supporting the State Emergency Operations Center and Alaska’s military and veteran communities, contributing directly to the agency’s mission of preparedness, support, and leadership development.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of specifications, uses, and types of computer or computer-related equipment (Hardware)
  • Knowledge of computer network, desktop, and mainframe operating systems and their applications (Operating Systems)
  • Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues (Technical Competence)
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, and sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

  • Information Assurance: Knowledge of methods and procedures to protect information systems and data by ensuring their availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.
  • Training or experience in some combination of providing customer service response, diagnosis, resolution, and/or escalation of end-user issues with information technology hardware and applications; installing new computers, printers, and other peripheral devices; and/or loading and troubleshooting software and hardware systems, maintaining security software, and configuring network settings for workstations.
  • Must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access.
  • Must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment.
  • If using a private vehicle this will require a valid Alaska Driver License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • A background check investigation, including a criminal records check, will be conducted.
  • Valid Real ID Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering comprehensive end-user and desktop support

  • Supporting seven diverse divisions with exceptional IT services
  • Working independently from the statewide OIT, allowing for agile decision-making and tailored solutions that directly support our mission of emergency preparedness and disaster response
  • Supporting users/divisions/components at various locations on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson which requires driving by car or light truck to many locations on, and off, the 74,000 acre base for support and face to face meetings
  • Traveling to Juneau, Fairbanks, and other in and out of state locations for support, coordination and training
  • Providing support to the Departments missions in remote areas of the state, including small villages and towns with no commercial lodging
