About The Position

The IT Business Analyst II serves as a liaison between business units and technical teams to align technology solutions with the University’s goals. The Business Analyst II performs advanced analysis, troubleshooting, and research to support reliable systems, while using AI-assisted tools to streamline workflows, enhance analysis, and improve service delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in full life cycle of application development.
  • Master’s degree and 1 year of progressively responsible experience in full life cycle of application development may be considered as substitution for the minimum requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of higher education organizational structures, business practices, and supporting enterprise systems (e.g., student information systems, academic advising, student recruitment).
  • Experience working with higher education technology platforms such as Ellucian Banner, Degree Works, Canvas, TargetX, Navigate, Argos, or similar enterprise applications.
  • Experience using collaboration, documentation, project management tools, and/or AI-enabled tools such as Git/GitHub, ServiceNow, Visio, or AI-assisted platforms.
  • Familiarity with AI tools for data analysis, process automation, documentation generation, or decision support.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, facilitation, and stakeholder negotiation skills.
  • Experience developing and maintaining business and functional requirements documentation, including Business Requirements Documents (BRD), Functional Specifications, and related system documentation.
  • Experience conducting business process reviews, performing fit-gap analysis, and identifying critical success factors for technology implementations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the assessment of business needs through stakeholder interaction, mapping of current and future business processes, and identifying opportunities for improvement, including the use of AI-assisted analysis tools.
  • Develop Business Requirements Documentation (BRD) and Business Process Review documentation for application modifications, leveraging AI to draft, refine, and validate documentation.
  • Develop unit test plans and assist in developing with the business owner UAT test cases based on business requirements and process flow documentation, including AI-supported test case generation.
  • Investigate issues, perform root cause analysis, and track issues through resolution or escalation, utilizing AI tools for pattern recognition and data analysis where appropriate.
  • Participate in Business Process Management initiatives to collect and analyze metrics to improve processes, incorporating AI-driven insights and predictive analytics.
  • Consult with management and the Business Analyst team to ensure alignment with system design principles and emerging AI-enabled solutions.
  • Serve as point of contact for customers and IT staff regarding complex questions or requests, including guidance on AI-enabled solutions.
  • Act as liaison between requesting departments and IT staff by identifying underlying business needs through stakeholder discussions and AI-assisted discovery tools.
  • Execute and coordinate unit testing and assist business owners with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), incorporating AI tools to improve testing efficiency and coverage.
  • Create documentation describing upstream and downstream applications, including data flow diagrams and logical process flowcharts, using AI-assisted diagramming and documentation tools where applicable.
  • Develop training materials and assist with Service Desk Knowledge Base documentation related to application changes, including AI-generated drafts and content optimization.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of project management documentation, leveraging AI tools for tracking and reporting.
  • Collaborate with clients and technical teams to resolve system issues affecting supported applications, including AI-supported diagnostics and recommendations.
  • Support implementation activities including coordination of testing, documentation updates, and stakeholder communication, incorporating AI tools to enhance communication and efficiency.
  • Develop, document, and revise system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards, including considerations for AI integration and governance.
  • Assist in implementation of change management plans, including adoption of AI tools and practices.
  • May perform duties associated with the IT Business Analyst I classification as needed.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through training, professional development activities, and participation in relevant professional organizations, including AI and emerging technology trends.
  • Proactively learn and apply emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and automation tools, to improve project and operational outcomes.
  • Ensure responsible, ethical, and compliant use of AI technologies in alignment with University policies and data governance standards.
  • Adhere to established departmental policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
