IT Audit Director – AI, Cybersecurity & Emerging Technology

About The Position

We are seeking an experienced IT Audit Director with deep expertise in AI, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and emerging technology risk to join a highly technical internal audit team within a large, complex enterprise environment. This is a hands-on leadership role — not a traditional ITGC/SOX-focused audit position. The ideal candidate can operate at both the Director and technical practitioner level, personally leading complex technology audits while partnering with engineers, security professionals, architects, AI teams, and senior technology leaders.

Requirements

8+ years of experience in IT Audit, IT Risk Management, Information Security, or a related technology risk discipline
Significant internal audit experience within a large, complex organization
Proven experience leading highly technical IT audits
Deep technical expertise in one or more areas such as: Artificial Intelligence / AI Risk, Cybersecurity & Information Security, Cloud Infrastructure / AWS, Systems & Infrastructure Architecture, Technology Resiliency
Ability to remain hands-on technically while leading engagements and teams
Formal people management experience, including coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback
Strong project and stakeholder management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with engineers, architects, security professionals, and senior technology executives
Practical experience in auditing AI solutions, platforms, models, or AI-related technology risks
Practical experience in AI governance, security, controls, and risk management
Practical experience in agentic AI architectures and associated risks
Practical experience applying AI to improve audit execution and effectiveness
Practical experience evaluating rapidly evolving AI technologies and translating technical developments into meaningful enterprise risk considerations
Strong analytics capabilities
Python and data analysis
NumPy, SciPy, PySpark, or similar technologies
Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, or comparable visualization platforms
Using analytics to identify risk, test controls, analyze large data sets, and improve audit execution

Nice To Haves

This opportunity is best suited for someone who is more technical than a traditional IT auditor and enjoys getting into the details of how modern technology environments actually work.
You should be equally comfortable reviewing technical architecture and controls, challenging technical SMEs, leading an audit engagement, mentoring a team, and presenting key risks to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end audits across AI, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, technology resiliency, systems architecture, and emerging technology risk
Personally perform hands-on technical audit testing, analysis, and technical walkthroughs
Assess technology architecture, controls, vulnerabilities, and emerging risks
Develop risk-based audit strategies, objectives, testing approaches, and work programs
Communicate complex technical findings clearly to both technical and executive stakeholders
Contribute to annual technology risk assessments and audit planning
Develop perspectives on emerging AI, cyber, cloud, and enterprise technology risks
Coach and mentor audit team members and provide meaningful performance feedback
Leverage AI, automation, and data analytics to improve audit quality and efficiency
Partner closely with technology executives, engineering teams, cybersecurity professionals, architects, risk teams, and internal audit leadership
