About The Position

This is an entry-level position where the main role is to assist senior-level staff with the design, planning, and operation of the corporate and operational data networks. This includes the configuration, installation, and management of all local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), Wi-Fi, data centers, VPN, and related network tools to support business client requirements. Responsibilities include assisting with network planning, engineering and architecture designs, implementing routers, switches, Wi-Fi equipment, and reviewing current network topologies. Troubleshooting includes assisting with network performance and the identification and resolution of hardware and software technical problems related to network equipment, ensuring a stable network environment for all business and operational applications. Participation in IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the network/telecommunications infrastructure is required.

Requirements

Understanding of technical principles, theories and concepts, in the field of networking.
General knowledge of other related IT disciplines.
Any working knowledge of relevant Cisco System platforms.
Entry level knowledge of Cisco products & networking protocols.
Basic troubleshooting skills using network tools.
Basic network management and theories.
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline or equivalent.
Zero to three years of related experience.
Driver's license.

Experience with Cisco System’s equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

Assisting with network planning, engineering and architecture designs.
Implementing routers, switches, Wi-Fi equipment.
Reviewing current network topologies.
Assisting with network performance troubleshooting.
Identifying and resolving hardware and software technical problems related to network equipment.
Ensuring a stable network environment for all business and operational applications.
Participating in IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the network/telecommunications infrastructure.
Maintaining technical knowledge in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, including routers, switches, multiplexors, gateways, communications processors, network operating systems, network protocols, network monitoring platforms, network sniffers, IP Telephony (VOIP), IP video conferencing, multimedia delivery and performance.
Updating documentation for network architecture and planning the total network integration.
Evaluating complex existing networks systems and helping make recommendations for resources required to maintain and/or expand service levels.
Recommending solutions to performance, tuning, and capacity issues.
Providing network performance and capacity consulting for new application projects.
Acting as a consultant to provide the business with recommendations on solutions.
Monitoring the network and arranging the necessary corrective actions to ensure high quality transmission capability.
Managing third-party maintenance for network equipment.
Troubleshooting problems with department users and department LAN/WAN administrators.
Assisting with technical white papers and enterprise architecture plans for the enterprise data network environment.
Providing 2nd level technical support and consultation to operations, other technical services groups, support center, etc.
Troubleshooting network, server, and client-based communication related problems across multiple platforms.
Translating corporate business requirements to vendors, evaluating vendor proposals, and assisting with enterprise-wide technical RFPs relating to network design and applications.
Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs as part of an Emergency Restoration assignment.
