Architect IT

MedlineNorthbrook, IL

About The Position

Medline Industries is seeking an IT Architect to provide hands-on architecture leadership for enterprise application and platform initiatives. This role is responsible for designing, reviewing, and governing applications, integration, platform, and supporting infrastructure architectures. The IT Architect partners closely with engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and supportable. This is not an advisory-only role. The architect is expected to remain engaged throughout delivery, help resolve complex design challenges, and ensure architectural decisions hold up in real-world deployment and operations. The position spans application architecture, integration patterns, network and security considerations, and platform design, supporting enterprise solutions built using .NET technologies, databases, APIs, containerized workloads, and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Experience designing enterprise application architectures, including .NET‑based solutions for primarily Azure based environments.
  • Strong understanding of network, application, and identity security fundamentals, including secure connectivity, access controls, encryption in transit, and IAM patterns.
  • Experience designing and reviewing network‑aware architectures, even when infrastructure teams implement the underlying controls.
  • Experience with cloud and/or hybrid environments, including networking, identity, and platform considerations.
  • Experience designing API‑based and service‑oriented integrations, with clear system boundaries and data flows.
  • Familiarity with containerization concepts (e.g., Docker, container platforms, orchestration fundamentals).
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server and/or Azure SQL in enterprise environments.
  • Exposure to DevOps and modern delivery practices, including CI/CD and multi‑environment deployments.
  • Experience supporting architecture decisions through active delivery and production support scenarios, not just upfront design.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience across application development, solution architecture, or platform architecture roles.
  • Experience working within large enterprise IT environments with formal security and governance practices.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, infrastructure, and security partners.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain architecture and security considerations to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating within architecture and security review processes while supporting delivery progress.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting solutions in regulated or security‑conscious enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with architecture or security review boards.
  • Experience modernizing or re‑architecting existing enterprise applications.
  • Prior experience as a hands‑on software engineer, with full‑stack exposure and the ability to step into a technical or development‑lead role as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design and govern solution architectures across application, integration, platform, and infrastructure layers.
  • Partner with delivery teams to translate business and technical requirements into clear, implementable architecture designs.
  • Participate in architecture, technical, and security reviews, including design walkthroughs and review boards.
  • Identify technical, network, and security risks early, and provide practical mitigation strategies.
  • Define and review application and integration security designs, including authentication, authorization, token usage, and secure communication patterns.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams on network architecture considerations, including System‑to‑system connectivity, Network boundaries and trust zones, Internet‑facing vs internal services, Firewall and access‑control implications.
  • Guide architecture decisions for .NET‑based applications, APIs, and supporting services.
  • Support architectures involving containerized workloads, including deployment and runtime considerations.
  • Ensure consistent environment strategy across development, test, and production.
  • Document architecture decisions, assumptions, and constraints to support long‑term maintainability and operational clarity.
