About The Position

The Department of Revenue is seeking a self-motivated application developer to join our team to analyze and enhance tax processing software. This is an excellent opportunity to work on challenging projects within mainframe, transaction processing systems. This Senior Applications Developer position will develop and maintain major tax programs for the State of Nebraska. Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for all phases of application development and maintenance; communicates with system users to determine processing needs; researches system enhancements; performs design and analysis of computer systems. This position will perform at an advanced level to analyze, create, and modify complex computer applications of considerable size and scope. This position will be responsible for performing this full range of duties plus any related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Experience with systems analysis and design

  • Experience with software system testing procedures

  • Experience with database design
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging complex computer applications

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Nebraska tax programs
  • Knowledge of tools and technologies that are, or might be, used by the Nebraska Department of Revenue, including: COBOL, JCL, TSO, AMI DevX Workbench, SQL, Excel VBA, and Java.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with business users and other stakeholders to define system requirements
  • Performs information analysis and data organization
  • Estimates costs for potential changes
