About The Position

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is seeking an IT Application Development Intern to join our Information Technology Bureau. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting technology used in a law enforcement environment. You will assist with application development and enhancements, software testing and troubleshooting, SharePoint migration projects, technical documentation, and project support while learning from experienced IT professionals. The ideal candidate is a motivated student who enjoys technology, problem-solving, and learning new skills. Under the supervision of the Bureau designee, the Intern will provide specific functions related to assigned location of internship. The Intern can expect an increasing amount of responsibility related to internship, while gaining professional work experience and firsthand involvement with services that support the law enforcement community. The Intern observes and learns as the Information Technology Application Development designee carries out the following.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s level program, preferably in information technology, computer science, computer technology, or related field
• Minimum 2.5 G.P.A.
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Strong writing and interpersonal skills
• Excellent computer skills
• Ability to work independently or part of a team
• Flexibility and ability to multi-task

Responsibilities

• Assist with the development, maintenance, and enhancement of internal software applications under the guidance of senior developers.
• Support software testing activities by creating and executing automated and manual test cases using testing frameworks such as Playwright.
• Participate in SharePoint migration projects, including content validation, document migration, and post-migration testing.
• Troubleshoot application issues, document defects, and assist with implementing software fixes and enhancements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, document technical solutions, and support application deployments.
• Assist with project planning activities, including task tracking, status updates, documentation, and coordination with project stakeholders.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and testing procedures to support application development and ongoing system maintenance.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of the IT department work areas (server room, offices, storage rooms, work benches).
• Participates in Sheriff’s Office recruitment and community relations activities as directed.
