About The Position

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is seeking an entry-level IT Application Developer to join the Applications, Development and Integrations Team. This role is part of a unit within UFIT dedicated to understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida's community. The team focuses on building and enhancing enterprise solutions to support critical business processes for the University of Florida. The ideal candidate will be a skilled team member who enjoys using their creative talents to produce business solutions that address customer needs. Responsibilities include participating in projects to solve business problems and create efficiency, working in a collaborative team environment, participating in the full software development life cycle, and producing quality enterprise solutions. This role requires meeting with customers, analyzing requirements, proposing solutions, creating design specifications and prototypes, developing and testing new code, and documenting solutions. It also involves performing enhancements and maintaining existing applications. Excellent communication skills, staying current with the latest trends in application development, and a history of producing quality work are essential.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience, but does not negate the minimum degree requirement(s).
  • Working experience with one or more programming languages.
  • Working experience with SQL (structured query language).
  • Working experience with database design.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Keep current with the latest trends in application development.
  • History of producing quality work.

Nice To Haves

  • SQL and relational database systems (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Object-oriented programming languages (C#, Java, PeopleCode, etc.) for at least one year
  • Source Control (Git, SVN, etc.)
  • Issue management or project management
  • Ability to search online resources for answers and learn quickly

Responsibilities

  • Meet with analysts to gather, analyze, and prioritize requirements.
  • Devise and propose solutions for new projects and enhancements to ERP systems.
  • Develop and test new code that maintains the integrity of the ERP systems.
  • Develop efficient and performant SQL within the ERP system.
  • Participate in projects to solve business problems and create efficiency.
  • Participate in the full software development life cycle.
  • Produce quality enterprise solutions.
  • Meet with customers, analyze requirements, propose solutions, create design specifications and prototypes.
  • Develop and test new code.
  • Document solutions.
  • Perform enhancements and help maintain existing applications.
