About The Position

EcoLogic Consultants Ltd. is a consulting firm specializing in integrated land stewardship and planning, environmental assessment, permitting, and reclamation/restoration across Canada. Their key services include Environmental Assessment, Monitoring & Compliance; Integrated Land Stewardship & Planning; Environmental Monitoring; Terrestrial Ecology and Wetland Assessments; Restoration, Reclamation & Climate Resilience; Partnership, Engagement & Capacity Building; Mapping, Remote Sensing, and Modelling; Visual Communication & Design; Archaeology & Cultural Heritage; and Engineering Services. The data and modelling team combines deep technical and subject matter expertise across environmental, ecological, and geospatial disciplines. The increasing complexity of project data needs requires an expansion of IT and infrastructure capacity for sustainable growth. This is a hands-on role with significant responsibility and opportunity for growth, supporting both strategic infrastructure initiatives and day-to-day IT operations. A key focus will be evaluating current data storage and management systems, identifying opportunities for improvement, and leading the transition to a scalable and maintainable data architecture that supports the needs of GIS, modelling, environmental, and archaeological teams. The successful candidate will bring experience with cloud platforms, network storage, document collaboration systems, and enterprise IT administration. In addition to infrastructure development and maintenance, the role will provide end-user support, oversee device procurement and deployment, manage software licensing and security, and contribute to the development of database and systems solutions that support project delivery and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate from an accredited technical college in IT support, network administration, or a related field (or equivalent demonstrated experience).
  • Three years of experience or demonstrated equivalent through project work.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration, including SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams configuration and governance.
  • Solid working knowledge of Windows systems administration.
  • Functional familiarity with macOS and iOS/iPadOS.
  • Understanding of data backup, storage architecture, and data lifecycle concepts, including the distinction between sync, backup, and archival.
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical staff.
  • Ability to document procedures.
  • Ability to maintain organized records.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with both SMB-based file shares and object storage, including when each is appropriate.
  • Experience planning or executing data migrations, e.g., from consumer-grade sync platforms (Dropbox, Google Drive) to enterprise environments.
  • Understanding of ArcGIS-specific storage requirements.
  • Familiarity with NAS hardware and SMB network share configuration for multi-user environments.
  • Familiarity with SQL databases and basic query writing.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS or spatial databases.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and improve reliable and secure computing infrastructure.
  • Evaluate current data storage and management systems, identify opportunities for improvement, and lead the transition to a scalable and maintainable data architecture.
  • Support GIS, modelling, environmental, and archaeological teams with data architecture needs.
  • Provide end-user support.
  • Oversee device procurement and deployment.
  • Manage software licensing and security.
  • Contribute to the development of database and systems solutions.
  • Configure backup and disaster recovery across all data management systems.
  • Develop data organization standards, lifecycle policies, and documentation.
  • Support ongoing storage monitoring and troubleshoot data access issues.
  • Purchase, configure, and deploy desktop and laptop systems (Windows and macOS), and tablets for field staff.
  • Manage software installations, updates, patching, and licensing compliance.
  • Provide hardware and software troubleshooting for end users.
  • Manage mobile devices and peripherals.
  • Manage endpoint security, antivirus, and security software.
  • Implement and enforce security best practices, including access controls, password policies, and user permissions.
  • Monitor for security incidents and coordinate response.
  • Ensure compliance with data handling requirements.
