About The Position

ISFL Recovery Worker at HMP Rochester, West Kent Prisons. This role involves creating a recovery-focused environment within the Incentivised Substance Free Living (ISFL) Wing. The position is part of the Change Grow Live team, working alongside people affected by drug and alcohol use to help them reduce harm, build resilience, and move towards healthier lives. The worker will manage a caseload, deliver interventions, and support individuals through assessment, treatment, and release planning, fostering a sense of community and encouraging meaningful steps in recovery. This role emphasizes the importance of relationships, consistency, and supporting individuals to envision a different future.

Requirements

  • A strong understanding of drug and alcohol use and experience working within a related field.
  • Experience managing a caseload and delivering person-centred interventions.
  • The ability to build positive professional relationships with people who may have complex needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisation, time management and IT skills.
  • An understanding of safeguarding, risk management, confidentiality and information governance.
  • The confidence to work independently while contributing fully to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Sensitivity when working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
  • The resilience and adaptability needed to work effectively within a secure environment.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.
  • Required to complete an Enhanced DBS check and obtain relevant security clearance.

  • Experience within a prison or criminal justice setting would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of people living on the ISFL Wing.
  • Deliver psychosocial interventions, structured groups and recovery programmes.
  • Complete screening, assessment, recovery planning and regular reviews.
  • Work alongside the Clinical Substance Misuse Team to develop and implement integrated care plans.
  • Support clinical reviews for people receiving prescribed treatment.
  • Act as a referral pathway for people who would like to join the ISFL Wing.
  • Work closely with the Drug Strategy Governor to support the development and improvement of the wing.
  • Contribute to risk management processes, including ACCT procedures where appropriate.
  • Follow up missed appointments and look for opportunities to re-engage people in support.
  • Work with healthcare, prison teams, community services and external agencies to support effective release planning.
  • Promote harm reduction, resilience, peer support and self-determination.
  • Advocate for people who may find it difficult to engage with treatment or express their needs.
