About The Position

The iSeries Administrator assists the Manager of iSeries with installation, maintenance, monitoring, and support of AS/400/iSeries environments, both centralized and distributed. This role involves exercising independent judgment and decision-making capabilities to effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues with critical systems. The administrator will provide technical support for application and hardware problem resolution on the iSeries (AS/400) platform, assist in maintaining a comprehensive PTF management program, and maintain documentation related to system configuration, hardware, and software. The position requires 24/7 support as needed and involves becoming a key player within the iSeries team, especially in the absence of the Manager of iSeries. Responsibilities include operating and managing key functions of the AS/400 platform to ensure system stability and performance, writing and troubleshooting AS/400 CL programs, creating and running AS/400 Queries, and executing Disaster Recovery procedures.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in business-related or information technology field or equivalent work experience is required. Equivalent experience would be at least 2-3 years of working experience in information technology, networking or iSeries administration.
  • 2-3 years of experience with the IBM Power I Systems (iSeries; AS/400), including networks and PC-related computer systems, PC support, Client Access, Query, Office Vision, Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with DOS, Windows, Ethernet, TCP/IP, SDCL/SNA, WAN, LAN, Frame-Relay, Terminals and Emulation Cards.
  • General knowledge of data communications.
  • Must be available during off hours to assist with any problems encountered by credit unions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with external clients as well as internal staff.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to use discretion when dealing with sensitive or confidential data.
  • Ability to work effectively with other CUAnswers teams.
  • Ability to operate telephone, photocopier, fax machines and PC workstation.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

  • Ability to travel by auto or plane to multiple locations throughout the United States including but not limited to client sites, other building locations, general errands, etc. This travel could be multiple times per day, once daily, weekly, monthly, or annually.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Exercises independent judgement and decision-making capabilities to effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues with critical systems.
  • Assist Manager of iSeries in providing technical support for application and hardware problem resolution on the iSeries (AS/400) platform computing system.
  • Assist in maintaining a comprehensive PTF management program, which includes the installation and research of currently available PTFs, CUMs, and Hiper packages that will aid in operating system enhancements and avoid potential system failures.
  • Maintain documentation related to system configuration hardware and software.
  • Provides 24/7 support as required in solving problems or supporting self-processors.
  • Become a key player within the iSeries team in the event of Manager of iSeries absence.
  • Operate and manage key functions of the AS/400 platform and ensure system stability and performance.
  • Write, maintain, and troubleshoot AS/400 CL (Control Language) programs to support operational tasks and automation.
  • Create and run AS/400 Queries to generate reports and support data analysis needs.
  • Execute Disaster Recovery procedures, including tape rotations, system backups, and coordination of DRA (Disaster Recovery Assessment) testing.
  • Maintain a positive contribution as a member of the iSeries Team and complete all tasks assigned by management to meet team objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational goals and evolving business needs.
  • Responsible for duties as outlined in the Team Roles and Responsibilities section of the CUAnswers Business and Continuity Recovery Plan.
