About The Position

The ISA Certified Arborists play a crucial role in managing the health and safety of trees in urban and rural environments. This position is responsible for various tasks related to the care, management, and preservation of trees, including diagnosing tree diseases, pruning, planting, and ensuring safe tree removals. Wright Tree Service, a business unit of Wright Canada Holdings, provides vegetation management, storm restoration, and work planning services to utility companies and their communities across North America.

Requirements

  • ISA Certified Arborist certification
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects
  • Must be able to climb trees and work at heights
  • Must be able to operate chainsaws and other tree care equipment
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have knowledge of tree identification, diseases, and pests
  • Must have knowledge of proper pruning and tree removal techniques
  • Must have knowledge of safety procedures when working around high-voltage electrical equipment

Responsibilities

  • Prune trees to remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches
  • Trim overgrown trees to improve their structure, appearance, and safety
  • Perform crown thinning, crown raising, and crown reduction to promote healthy growth
  • Ensure proper pruning techniques are followed to avoid damaging the tree
  • Remove trees that are dead, diseased, or pose a hazard to people or property
  • Use appropriate equipment (e.g., chainsaws, ropes, cranes) to safely remove trees in tight spaces
  • Work with tree-climbing techniques or aerial lifts for larger trees
  • Supervise arborist laborers or tree care crews during tree care projects
  • Coordinate and manage tasks on larger job sites, ensuring smooth operations and safe practices
  • Evaluate site conditions and recommend the best tree care practices for the location
  • Inspect trees for signs of disease, pests, or structural problems
  • Assess tree health and recommend corrective actions, such as pruning, pest control, or soil management
  • Keeps informed of new equipment and specifications, standards, practices and operating procedures
  • Use appropriate tools for each task
  • Assume responsibility for the inspection and proper working conditions of tools, trucks, and other work equipment
  • Request repair or replacement of equipment when necessary
  • Maintain detailed records of tree care activities, including treatments, inspections, and maintenance schedules
  • Keep track of equipment and material usage, reporting the status of trees as needed
  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s culture of safety and employee ownership
  • Comply with applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
  • Train and support team members in learning about tree identification, tree removal procedures, tree disease identification and treatment, and other aspects of the job as needed
  • Supervise crew members to ensure that safety procedures are followed, especially when working around high-voltage electrical equipment, including tree trimming practices
