About The Position

Inspect, install and repair all irrigation systems throughout the City of Altamonte Springs. This role involves maintaining and repairing irrigation systems in city parks, medians, right-of-ways, and city facilities. The technician will also inspect and install new irrigation systems, coordinate routine maintenance, and assist with landscape installations and renovations. Troubleshooting problems with irrigation controllers, wiring, and valves is a key responsibility. The position may also involve assisting with Department of Leisure Services and City projects, driving to various work sites, and performing additional duties as assigned. Availability for emergency call-outs is required, and in such events, employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside their normal job description, including completing required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in irrigation repairs, installation, and trouble shooting.
  • Must have experience operating trenching machines
  • Valid driver license.
  • Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Rain Bird series controllers.
  • FNGLA Certified Landscape Irrigation Service Technician.
  • Must obtain FNGLA certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with landscape installation and renovations.
  • Trouble shoot problems relating to irrigation controllers, wirings, and valves.
  • Assist with Department of Leisure Services and City projects, as assigned.
  • Drive to and from City work sites.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Be available for emergency call-outs.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
