About The Position

An Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of water-delivery systems for landscapes and residential homes. This role involves working with a variety of components, such as pipes, sprinkler heads, and control systems, to ensure efficient water distribution. The technician’s work is crucial for maintaining the health and appearance of turf, gardens, and crops.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
  • OSHA Certification a plus
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of irrigation, pest control and landscaping.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) required
  • Operate mechanical and electrical machinery/equipment (i.e. blowers, power washer, etc.)
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills to help create effective customer-focused relationships with all levels within the organization.
  • Able to work under tight deadlines, use time effectively based on key priorities, and understand directives given.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. following appropriate safety procedures.
  • Ability to properly utilize gas or electric powered equipment and follow all required safety procedures
  • Ability to work in an upright standing position for long periods of time
  • Ability to crawl in small and tight spaces
  • Ability to work in different environmental working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain).
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs
  • Ability to stoop and bend
  • Extensive use of fingers for typing and visual use of the computer monitor.
  • Ability to handle, grasp, feel objects and equipment.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to quickly and easily navigate property/buildings is required to meet the job functions.
  • Ability to repeat various motions with wrists, hands and fingers.
  • Ability to detect auditory and/or visual emergency alarms.
  • May be required to perform work outdoors during all seasons
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights above ground level.
  • Ability to hear, understand and respond appropriately to verbal requests made in person and over the telephone.
  • Visual ability correctable to 20/20.
  • Ability to respond verbally in an understandable, professional manner in person and over the telephone.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic checks on irrigation systems to identify and repair issues with components like pipes, sprinkler heads, and valves.
  • Program and adjust electronic irrigation controllers based on seasonal weather patterns, soil types, and specific landscape requirements to ensure efficient water use.
  • Read and interpret landscape blueprints and irrigation design plans to ensure accurate installation and placement of new systems.
  • Operate trenching and excavation equipment to lay pipes and install system components for new irrigation setups.
  • Perform seasonal maintenance, including system startups in the spring and winterization procedures to prevent freezing damage in colder months.
  • Maintain detailed records of services performed, materials used, and site-specific system settings for accurate client billing and history.
  • Communicate with clients to explain system functions, provide operational instructions, and recommend upgrades or water conservation strategies.
  • Manage inventory of parts and equipment on a service vehicle to ensure availability for on-site repairs and installations
