The Irrigation Technician performs essential job responsibilities and duties related to irrigation functions. This role involves assisting in various irrigation tasks, sharing responsibility for basic equipment maintenance (checking and changing oil/grease), supervising truck/trailer setup, managing equipment and supplies for landscape maintenance projects, and ensuring all equipment has proper safety devices installed and operational. The technician must maintain equipment in good operating condition, operate light/heavy equipment effectively and according to regulations, and report any problems with job sites or equipment immediately. A key aspect of the role is ensuring proper task-specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized and maintained, and adhering to all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. The technician is also responsible for creating a safe environment for colleagues, vendors, and clients, and interfacing with clients when needed to establish customer relationships. Quality control includes recognizing and reporting irrigation deficiencies and communicating with the Operations Manager and Account Manager regarding job site status. The role also involves participating in training programs for irrigation procedures. Specific duties may include providing estimates, operating pumps and other equipment, managing assigned projects with effective water management techniques, and recognizing drainage deficiencies and problem soils. Additional responsibilities may include refuse removal (operating a refuse truck, lifting heavy items, lock-in/lock-out procedures, operating a compactor), cleaning (using cleaning supplies and solvents safely), and snow removal (using snow removal equipment, safe driving techniques in snow/ice, and wearing appropriate clothing).
