About The Position

The Irrigation Technician performs essential job responsibilities and duties related to irrigation functions. This role involves assisting with various irrigation tasks, checking and changing oil and grease in basic equipment, and supervising truck/trailer setup. The technician is responsible for ensuring equipment has proper safety devices, maintaining equipment in good operating condition, and operating light/heavy equipment effectively and according to regulations. They must report any problems with job sites or equipment immediately. Safety is paramount, requiring proper use and maintenance of task-specific PPE, adherence to company policies and safety guidelines, and ensuring a safe environment for all individuals on site. The role also involves interfacing with clients when needed, establishing customer relationships, demonstrating the ability to recognize and report irrigation deficiencies, and communicating with the Operations Manager and Account Manager regarding job site status. The technician will participate in training programs for irrigation procedures and may be assigned specific duties related to irrigation maintenance, including providing estimates, operating pumps and other equipment, managing projects with effective water management techniques, and recognizing drainage deficiencies and problem soils. Additional duties may include refuse removal, operating a refuse truck and compactor, and snow removal, requiring knowledge of safe driving techniques in adverse conditions and appropriate clothing for weather exposure.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in irrigation
  • Knowledge of blueprints
  • Employee must be at least 18 years of age and meet all applicable state-mandated labor laws
  • Previous experience as Crew Member.
  • Has satisfactorily completed the prescribed “Crew Member” training guide and can perform those specified essential duties
  • Knowledge of: Mainscape Standards of Excellence
  • Enforce safety of the customer, job site, and company employees on site.
  • Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to effectively drive and back-up a truck and trailer combination.
  • Interact with customer daily as needed.
  • Identify and correct all unsafe conditions and practices and communicate actions to supervisor and/or owners.
  • Adhere to company policies, standards and safety guidelines.
  • Work with other employees as a team.
  • Meet or exceed company production rates set forth.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and insurability based on company insurance requirements
  • Ability to communicate w/ lead people and crew members regarding progress of tasks and assignments
  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body in order to be able to work in various positions including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting, and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to reach over head with hands and arms; climb or balance;
  • Be able to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Irrigation certification recommended
  • Six (6) to twelve (12) months of previous commercial experience as a crew leader, preferred but not required.
  • Pesticide License, preferred – (Fertilization)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform all responsibilities required of an irrigation technician.
  • Assist in the performance of various irrigation functions.
  • Check and change oil and grease in basic equipment.
  • Supervise truck/trailer setup daily and manage equipment and supplies for landscape maintenance projects.
  • Oversee all equipment has proper safety devices installed and operational.
  • Maintain equipment in good operating condition.
  • Operate light/heavy equipment effectively and according to all regulations.
  • Report any problems with job site or equipment immediately.
  • Ensure proper task-specific PPE is being properly utilized and maintained at all times.
  • Follow all company policies & procedures, including safety guidelines/standards.
  • Ensure a safe environment for other workers and vendors, clients and for all employees.
  • Interface with client when needed; Establish relationship with customers.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize and report irrigation deficiencies.
  • Communicate with Operations Manager and Account Manager regarding status of assigned job sites.
  • Participate in training program for irrigation procedures.
  • Provide estimates and maintain positive client relations.
  • Operate pumps, suction and other equipment.
  • Manage assigned projects practicing effective water management techniques.
  • Recognize drainage deficiencies and problem soils.
  • Safely operate a refuse truck in a residential area.
  • Lift /move heavy items.
  • Know and perform the lock-in /lock-out procedure.
  • Safely operate a compactor.
  • Safely use cleaning supplies and solvents.
  • Work in residential and commercial areas.
  • Safely use snow removal equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of safe driving techniques in snow and ice conditions.
  • Apply knowledge of appropriate clothing for the weather conditions that he/she will be exposed to.

  • The noise level in the work environment will vary depending on the assigned jobs, however, it is usually high and requires ear protection while operating equipment.
