About The Position

HML Contracting Ltd. is a well-established landscaping and maintenance contractor providing high-quality irrigation, landscape construction, and maintenance services throughout St Albert, Edmonton and surrounding areas. We are safety-driven, quality-focused, and take pride in delivering professional results to our clients. We are currently seeking an experienced Irrigation Technician – Lead Hand to lead crews, oversee irrigation installations and repairs, and support field operations. The Irrigation Technician – Lead Hand is responsible for supervising irrigation crews while performing hands-on installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial irrigation systems. This role requires strong technical competence, leadership ability, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience in irrigation installation and repair
  • Experience with low-voltage electrical troubleshooting
  • Ability to read blueprints and irrigation plans
  • Physically fit and able to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Strong leadership, organization, and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with clean abstract
  • Ability to safely operate job-related equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous lead hand or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and residential irrigation systems
  • Landscape or horticulture experience is an asset
  • Backflow Assembly Tester Certification
  • Plumbing or Gas Fitting Ticket

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise irrigation crews on daily job sites
  • Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair irrigation systems
  • Coordinate daily tasks, materials, and equipment
  • Ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards
  • Perform system start-ups, adjustments, and winterization
  • Troubleshoot electrical, valve, controller, and water pressure issues
  • Read and interpret irrigation designs, drawings, and site plans
  • Complete and document daily site safety meetings and FLHAs
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and crew members
  • Train and mentor junior irrigation technicians and laborers
  • Operate tools and equipment safely (trenching equipment, pipe cutters, hand tools, etc.)
  • Assist with other landscape or maintenance tasks as required
