About The Position

The Irrigation Crew Leader is a skilled professional responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of irrigation systems, leading a team in the process. This role involves not only performing advanced irrigation work but also guiding and training other crew members, managing materials and equipment, and ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of water for various purposes, such as landscaping, agriculture, or turf management.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of irrigation system design, installation, maintenance, and repair techniques; experience with various types of irrigation systems (drip, overhead, automatic).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve irrigation issues efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members and stakeholders; ability to provide clear instructions and guidance.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various outdoor environments, including heavy lifting, climbing, and working in adverse weather conditions.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Relevant experience in irrigation
  • Certifications in turf management or related fields (preferred but not strictly required)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 20-40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Background check results must be clear.

Responsibilities

  • Guiding, training, and scheduling irrigation personnel; performing the work of an irrigation specialist while supervising a crew.
  • Overseeing the installation, maintenance, replacement, and repair of manual and automatic irrigation systems, including pipes, fittings, valves, controllers, and related equipment.
  • Providing advanced technical expertise in irrigation system design, operation, and troubleshooting; interpreting blueprints and construction plans.
  • Estimating and requisitioning materials, supplies, and equipment; establishing inventory control procedures.
  • Inspecting and auditing irrigation systems to ensure they meet specifications and function correctly; implementing water conservation programs.
  • Recording time, labor, and material costs; maintaining records of irrigation operations.
  • Ensuring the safety of team members; securing permits for water connections, and monitoring compliance with regulations.
