About The Position

Turner Industries is seeking an Ironworker for a maintenance position in Pass Christian, MS. The Ironworker position works as a member of a crew to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. This is a non-exempt role that reports to the Foreman. Assigned duties are according to specific procedures and work is checked frequently. No per diem is available for this position. The successful candidate will be a current resident in/near the area as no relocation is available.

Requirements

High school or equivalent
One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
Rigging skills including wire rope slings
Written pre-employment qualification test
Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Some job sites may require NCCER certification

Responsibilities

Off loads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator
Sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members
Fastens steel members to cable of hoist
Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member
Guides member or rides on member in order to guide it into position
Pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device
Forces members into final position
Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member
Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members
Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted
Cuts steel members to make alterations
