The Ironworker position works as a member of a crew to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent
  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
  • Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
  • Rigging skills including wire rope slings
  • Post offer drug / alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the company Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Nice To Haves

  • Some job sites may require NCCER certification

Responsibilities

  • Off loads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator
  • sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members
  • fastens steel members to cable of hoist
  • signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member
  • guides member or rides on member in order to guide it into position
  • pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device
  • forces members into final position
  • aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member
  • verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members
  • bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted
  • cuts steel members to make alterations
  • perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction
  • Comply with company and client job site safety requirements
