About The Position

IMI is seeking a full-time Ironworker/Structural Welder local to the Juliette, GA area. This role involves assisting senior employees with installing, dismantling, and moving machines, conveyors, and other equipment. The position requires interpreting structural drawings, understanding crane signaling and rigging procedures, and aligning and bolting structural steel members. The welder will also be responsible for directing cranes, connecting steel components, drilling holes, numbering steel, unloading and stacking steel, and positioning steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches. Additionally, the role involves using alignment tools, performing welding operations under various conditions, troubleshooting structures for welding defects, and repairing damaged coatings. Experience with Pre-engineered Metal Building (PEMB) erection is a plus.

Requirements

  • 3+ years' experience
  • Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push-pull, lift, grasp, twist, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects.
  • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifting items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, including times of inclement weather.
  • Manual dexterity needed for repetitive tasks and to operate standard operating equipment.
  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close-quarters performing analysis and repair work.
  • Must be highly safety cautious and have ability to see and escape from dangerous situations.
  • Ability to climb a ladder and step into various pieces of equipment.
  • Good physical fitness, eye-hand coordination, and ability to quickly respond to sounds.
  • Good sense of balance and ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to wear PPE correctly for working shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Pre-engineered Metal Building (PEMB) Erection experience is a plus.
  • NCCER or AWS certification or completion of a related program through an accredited technical school is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior employees with installing, dismantling, and moving machines, conveyors, and other equipment.
  • Interpret structural drawings.
  • Understand and perform crane Signaling procedures.
  • Align and bolt structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place per structural drawings.
  • Understand and perform Proper Rigging techniques.
  • Direct cranes to move structural steel components and other materials onto and around the construction site.
  • Connect steel columns, beams, and girders with drift pins to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.
  • Drill and/or ream holes into steel for bolting.
  • Number steel according to assembly instructions.
  • Unload and safely stack steel on cribbing.
  • Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.
  • Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment and elevations.
  • Pass an all-position SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) exam.
  • Conduct welding operations under intense conditions such as extreme heights, confined spaces, and inclement weather.
  • Troubleshoot structures to identify and initiate repair of welding defects.
  • Identify and repair damaged coatings during installation (Painted and Galvanized).
